Tesla sold 56,515 China-made vehicles in February, down 5.60% from January

According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold 56,515 GigaShangai-made vehicles in February, including 33,315 for export. Compared to January, the company sold less 3,330 units (down 5.60%) in February, a month with only 28 days plus the Chinese New Year Holidays, which usually makes it a slow month for sales in China. Although, when compared to the same period of last year, it is an increase of 208.5%.

In February 2021, Tesla sold 18,318 Made-in-China (MIC) Model 3/Model Y cars in February 2021 (up 370% from February 2020). Passenger car sales in February in China totalled 1.27 million, up 4.7% from February 2021.

On February 21st, over 360 Model Y Giga Berlin made vehicles were seen outside the factory. Until GigaBerlin’s final approval, European customers have been receiving its models from Giga Shangai, where more than 6,500 Model Y and Model 3 were recently seen ready to export.

According to Reuters, Tesla Inc plans to start work on a new plant in Shanghai as soon as next month as part of a plan to more than double production capacity in China to meet growing demand for its cars in the country and export markets, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

With this new plant, Tesla will have the capacity to produce up to 2 million cars per year at its expanded Shanghai facility, the company’s main export hub, according to the people, who asked not to be identified in discussing still-private plans.
