Rivian Vehicles Reach UK Roads Through Local Rental Firm

If you’re a UK resident who’s been wanting to drive a Rivian electric vehicle (EV), the wait may soon be over. The electric truck and SUV startup’s popular R1S EV is about to be available for rental by UK drivers.

Based in Irvine, California, Rivian still hasn’t started selling EVs in Europe but it has a few Electric Delivery Vans (EDVs) driving in Germany through its partnership with Amazon that helped put some of its electric vans on European roads.

Now Rivian’s international expansion is entering a new phase, though it is being ushered in through a new company.

The reservation section of Rivian’s website confirms that “Right now reservations are limited to the United States, excluding off-shore territories, and Canada. Stay tuned — more locations are coming soon.”

However, according to Electrek, its EVs are about to hit the streets in the UK regardless, as they have been purchased by another company that is now renting them out.

Both the Rivian R1S SUV and R1T electric truck are now available to rent in the UK thanks to Kent-based firm EVision.

On September 24, the rental firm shared the news on its X page, stating “The Rivian R1S has arrived at EVision! This fantastic all-electric SUV can be hired from 1 day up to 3 years. Would you love to drive this American beauty?”

It also offered prospective renters the chance to book their next ride in a R1S through its website.

How much will it cost to rent this Rivian SUV in the UK? The cost per day is $1,300 (£990 to UK residents). For a week’s rental, the cost is roughly $4,200 (£3114).

Electrek notes that “Longer-term options include: +1 month (£5994/ $8,000 per month), +1 year (£5274/ $7,000 per month), +2 years (£5034/ $6,750 per month), and 3 years (£4794/ $6,500).” The R1T is available to rent for $1,280 (£954) per day.

Its new tri-motor configuration and 371 miles of range should make it even more appealing to drivers seeking a comfortable, electric SUV experience.

While neither it or the R1T are available for purchase in Europe yet, Rivian has confirmed earlier this year that it plans on selling the next-gen R2 EV that it releases in international markets. The company is expected to expand into European markets in 2026.

In May 2023, a R1T truck was spotted in Austria with manufacturer plates, prompting speculation that the company could be venturing into Europe to find new part suppliers.

More recently, on April 6, 2024, EV reported sightings of a Rivian R1S in the south of Germany with local license plates.

Earlier this week, Jefferies analyst Philippe Houchois published a new research note on the stock following the firm’s visit to the company’s facilities in Palo Alto, California.

Despite concerns over Rivian’s Q4 gross margin breakeven goal, Jefferies analyst reiterated a Buy rating and $17.00 price target on the stock indicating a 45 percent upside on the shares.
