A Rivian owner announced on Tuesday that he has taken delivery of an R2 with the Coastal Cloud Signature interior, sharing several pictures less than a week after the option opened for ordering.
EV reported this month that Rivian confirmed both Coastal Cloud and Forest Green for “later in August” through replies on X to reservation holders, reaffirming a timeline its own build page had displayed since the configurator launched in mid-May.
The post appeared on the r/Rivian forum, under the title “Coastal Cloud DELIVERED” from a user who already owns an R1S, the flagship SUV of the EV maker.
“It’s here. It’s great. I love it,” the user ‘Surgeon_michael’ wrote.
The images show a cream and pale grey cabin against a dark dashboard, with textured fabric across the dash and door cards.
The pictures were taken in a Rivian delivery lot with other vehicles visible behind.
Timeline
Rivian opened ordering for Coastal Cloud and the Forest Green exterior in the week beginning August 17, according to owners on Rivian Forums and r/Rivian.
Those buyers were quoted eight to twelve weeks — late October at the earliest. Access is reportedly being staged, with earlier reservation holders reaching the new options before those who reserved later.
Tuesday’s delivery came within days of that window opening, which means the brand prepared units before the option could be ordered.
Owner accounts describe finished Coastal Cloud cars arriving at Rivian service centres over the weekend, three days before this handover.
That is consistent with the pattern in Rivian’s serial assignments, where vehicle identification numbers are issued in batches by build slot and configuration rather than in response to individual orders.
Coastal Cloud
Coastal Cloud Signature is a $1,000 option and the second interior Rivian has offered on the R2. Black Crater Signature is included as standard.
It is available on every trim except the Standard, which is restricted to a non-Signature Black Crater cabin.
Rivian says the R2 uses its second-generation Adventex material on the seats, door inserts and instrument panel, with “a minimum of 45% sustainable content,” offered across Black Crater, Black Crater Signature and Coastal Cloud Signature.
The company describes the interior materials as durable and easy to clean, with flat-woven flooring that handles sand, dirt and pet hair — a claim that carries more weight on a pale cabin than a dark one.
What Buyers Have Been Choosing
Until now every R2 delivered has carried the same interior, leaving exterior paint as the only visible variable.
Catalina Cove led early builds at 38.0% of VIN-assigned orders as of mid-July, followed by Half Moon Grey at 25.4%, Launch Green at 18.3% and Glacier White at 15.5%. Midnight accounted for 2.8%.
Forest Green enters at $1,500, the same tier as Half Moon Grey, making it the cheapest of the darker shades. Midnight, the only other deep tone in production, costs $2,000. Esker Silver remains the sole no-cost exterior.
Every R2 currently orderable is a Performance trim with the Launch Package. No other configuration has opened.
The Waiting List Is Visible
The gap between the new options being orderable and being deliverable is already showing up in owner reports.
A buyer posting on Rivian Forums on Monday said he had received VIN 8316 — the highest logged in the community spreadsheet — for an Esker Silver car with a Coastal Cloud interior, and had no delivery date.
He said Rivian had asked him to arrange insurance, financing and a trade-in, and that he expected to wait more than two months.
