Nio’s Brand Firefly Eyes August Record as July Deliveries Likely Fall

Nio’s sub-brand Firefly is forecasting record deliveries in August, despite a likely month-on-month decline in July volumes as the company faced issues with its production line at the Hefei plant.

The brand announced on Friday that it had surpassed 10,000 cumulative deliveries of its debut model, reaching the milestone 97 days after handing over its first units in late April.

Firefly delivered 231 vehicles that month, followed by 3,680 in May and 3,932 in June.

According to the 10,000th milestone timing, Firefly delivered 2,157 units between July 1 and 25, suggesting a decline from the previous two months. The official July figures will be published on Friday — August 1.

The delivery slowdown comes as Firefly solved production issues at its manufacturing factory in Hefei last week. Pu Yang, head of marketing at Firefly, confirmed the upgrade was completed and hinted that output would rise sharply in August.

“Now we’ve completely resolved an issue — ever since we launched the BaaS, the love and enthusiasm for Firefly has reached a whole new level,” Yang said, referring to the brand’s Battery-as-a-Service programme, which allows customers to purchase the vehicle without the battery and pay a monthly rental fee instead.

Originally scheduled for August, the BaaS rollout was brought forward to late June, cutting the car’s entry price by around 30% to 79,800 yuan (approximately $11,120).

“We seized the momentum and helped our partners align with their commercial production timelines,” Yang said. “Right now, our partners — including our own factory — are operating at full capacity.”

Yang added that the company was preparing for a significant sales ramp-up in August, hinting at record figures to come. “Everyone, stay tuned — in August, we’re definitely going to usher in a new chapter in transportation.”

Insurance registration data from the third week of July showed a sharp drop to 550 vehicles between July 7 and 13 — down 57.7% from the prior week — before rebounding to 680 units in the week of July 14–20.
