Nio’s Firefly Announces Aster 2.0.0 Software Update Outside China

Nio’s sub-brand Firefly unveiled its Aster 2.0.0 operating system to international owners on Thursday, 41 days after the update began rolling out in China.

“Aster 2.0.0 is here,” the brand wrote on its global Instagram account.

“Whether you’re browsing, personalizing your information, or changing the look and layout, aster 2.0.0 gives you more ways to make the screen fit the moment,” it said.

Firefly did not list eligible markets or state software prerequisites in the post.

Five Features Shown

A promotional post highlights five functions, each on a centre display filmed against a coastal backdrop.

A built-in browser app opens the sequence under the tagline “browse your favorites.”

A mirror launcher follows, letting drivers move the home-screen dock to either the left or the right side of the display.

Firefly also showed a new theme called “amber sea,” which the video describes as “breeze blue.”

A customisable information board lets users choose which data appears on the home screen, with one frame showing a remaining range of 307 km beside a rendering of the car.

A fifth function, “background follow widgets,” matches the wallpaper to the active widgets.

Settings shown in the video place the toggle in a Theme menu, next to separate Widgets and Sound effect tabs and a switch for the mirror launcher.

All five functions in the video correspond to cabin and interface changes also listed in the Chinese release.

What China Received

Firefly began pushing Aster 2.0.0 to Chinese owners on August 14 in staged batches, according to the brand’s Weibo account.

Vehicles needed to run Aster 1.4.0 or later to qualify.

The release was the brand’s sixth major software update and its first full version change since the operating system launched alongside the car in April 2025.

In China, the cabin received most of the changes.

Additions included AI-generated wallpapers, an immersive full-screen desktop with dynamic backgrounds, left and right desktop mirroring, a screen-off mode for parked rest, a commute mode that launches navigation at set times, and a function that shows forward camera footage at zebra crossings.

Chinese owners also gained an entertainment layer built around local services.

Firefly added mic-free karaoke using the car’s 14-speaker system, the WeSing app with more than 10 million licensed backing tracks, Flux Media streaming, Youku Video and Yunting radio with more than 1,500 stations.

Voice assistant ‘Lumo’ gained the ability to play QQ Music daily playlists and Nio Radio by voice, and to search for charging stations along a route.

Driver assistance received one new function, an intelligent lighting reminder that toggles between high and low beams before overtaking when lane-centring or Navigate on Pilot is active.

Firefly has not said which other Aster 2.0.0 features will reach owners outside China.

Europe’s Update Record

Firefly has adapted earlier Aster versions for European buyers.

On September 17, 2025, the brand announced Aster 1.2.0 from Amsterdam, with wireless Apple CarPlay among the additions, alongside account memory that ties regenerative braking and one-pedal settings to individual profiles.

Aster 1.3.0 followed in November 2025 and rolled out in China and across European markets at the same time.

Firefly added battery preheating, a passenger media panel, a wash mode, and Portuguese and French language support ahead of launches in Portugal, Luxembourg, Austria, Greece and Denmark.

Aster 1.4.0 arrived in April 2026 with mistaken-acceleration suppression, an emergency rescue service and an expanded ‘Lumo’.

Version 1.5.0 followed in May with battery swap station parking assist and a free motor upgrade from 105 kW to 120 kW.

European Footprint

Firefly began European deliveries in August 2025 in the Netherlands and Norway.

Belgium became its third European market and the first where a local dealership partner handled sales instead of Nio.

The brand now sells in seven European markets, plus Singapore and Thailand in right-hand drive.

Volumes remain small.

Nio Inc. exported 54 Firefly vehicles in July, the brand’s third-strongest export month of 2026.

Belgium, Portugal and Luxembourg led Nio Inc.’s EU sales in August.

Firefly has extended price cuts of 11% to 17% across four European markets through late summer, and none of its special editions has been offered outside China.

Brand president Daniel Jin said in March that brand awareness remained Firefly’s main obstacle abroad.

He added that the brand would rely on local distributors rather than the direct-sales model Nio used in its early years in Europe.

Firefly delivered its 80,000th vehicle late last month, with cumulative deliveries of 80,209 through August 31 across 17 months.

Nearly all of those units were delivered in China.

The brand sells a single model. Nio’s founder and CEO William Li told analysts that Firefly will keep that single-model strategy in 2027 while adding special editions and technology upgrades.

The hatchback uses a 42.1 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack from Sunwoda and delivers 330 km of WLTP range.
