Lucid Shows Gravity Next to Rivian R1S and BMW i7 at Investor Factory Tour

Earlier this month, electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors held the Technology and Manufacturing Day at its Arizona factory.

At the event, the company, led by Peter Rawlinson, unveiled the first sneak peek of its third model—a midsize, fully electric SUV priced under $50,000, with production slated to begin in late 2026.

On LinkedIn, Lucid’s new Associate Director of Strategy & Business Development Ashlee Ramanathan shared Tuesday on his LinkedIn several pictures.

One of them shows that Lucid linen up its upcoming SUV model Gravity with two other premium SUVs: a BMW 7 Series and a Rivian R1S.

In his post, Ramanathan said the company showed investors “Gravity against our nearest competitor set” adding that “it was clear this vehicle is a class apart.”

“Once the [event] livestream concluded we took investors on a tour of our factory and showcased Gravity against our nearest competitor set, and it was clear this vehicle is a class apart, particularly for that spacious third row,” he wrote.

Last month, Lucid‘s CEO revealed he already tested Rivian’s SUV saying he’s “not worried”.

Asked about the competition with the R1S, Rawlinson said, “You could say, ‘How is Rivian gonna respond?’ Because Gravity is gonna be the best SUV out there, and no one will be able to compete with it”.

“To me, product is king. Bring it on […], but I’ve driven R1S, and I’ve driven the Gravity. I’m not worried,” Rawlinson added.

Earlier this year, Rivian updated its R1T and R1S models with “hundreds of hardware improvements, performance upgrades, a fully redesigned software experience, new in-house drive systems,” according to the Irvine-based manufacturer.

Rivian Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe joined Ferrari Chief Executive Benedetto Vigna last month to visit Lucid’s Gravity model on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Lucid delivered 2,110 vehicles in the second quarter of the year and expects to produce 5,162 vehicles between July and December.

Earlier this week, Lucid opened a new engineering and research center in Southfield, Michigan.
