In an era when over-the-air (OTA) updates that enhance the driver’s experience have become standard in the automotive industry—much like those seen on smartphones—the electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid announced Monday that it began rolling out its new software update in North America.
The update brings an enhanced version of its optional Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a new in-car assistant that replaces Amazon’s Alexa, a better integration with Apple Car Play, among others.
The company did not specify when customers in the Middle East and Europe will be able to install the new software version.
With the new update —named Lucid UX 2.4— the new version of Lucid’s ADAS DreamDrive Pro includes improved Highway Assist with high-definition maps and faster access to Lane Change Assist.
The mobile app connects to the car “much faster”, is “more responsive to command inputs”, and enables User Profile attributes to be updated from within the app, Lucid stated.
Additionally, the electric vehicle maker will now provide Extended Stop and Go, a feature where — in heavy stop-and-go driving — the car will “resume traveling after longer stops in traffic” as long as “the driver is still looking ahead”.
Lucid is also bringing a new —and optional— in-car voice assistant called “Hey Lucid” allowing drivers to control “many vehicle functions by speaking” such as navigation, audio systems, climate control, turn on heated seats, access the owner’s manual, and more.
Regarding Apple CarPlay, the company led by Peter Rawlinson will now allow drivers to use the software’s navigation also in the center instrument cluster.
To highlight features coming from customers’ feedback, Lucid said the Park Distance Warning, Surround View Monitoring, and Rear View Monitoring screens “now automatically close when vehicle speed exceeds 6 mph” adding that the HomeLink universal device on-screen controls are displayed while the vehicle is in reverse.
According to Motor Intelligence, Lucid Motors sold 660 vehicles in the United States in August, following sales of 608 in June and 697 units in July.
With 1,728 vehicles produced in the first quarter and 2,110 vehicles in the second one, the California-based EV maker expects to produce 5,162 vehicles in the second half of the year.
