Lucid Clarifies Gravity Will Have One Charging Port, NACS or CCS Still Unknown

Earlier today, a report citing a social media post by a Lucid enthusiast said that the upcoming Gravity SUV would feature two separate charging ports: one for CCS and another for NACS. However, the company has now clarified that this was only due to charging tests in the prototype vehicles.

This design would allow the vehicle to be compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network across the United States without having to use an adapter.

On X, Lucid’s Head of Global Communications, Nick Twork, clarified that the production model will feature only one charging port, not two as previously reported.

Never Miss an Update on Lucid

“The production Lucid Gravity will have one charge port. Some development cars have two charge ports for testing purposes,” he wrote.

While the post clarifies the number of charging ports on the Gravity, it remains unclear whether the vehicle will adopt NACS or CCS.

As of today, Rivian and Ford owners can already charge their vehicles at Tesla’s network across the country with Nissan, General Motors, Volvo, Polestar and Mercedes Benz on the list to join “soon,” according to Tesla’s website.

On the last day of July, Lucid’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, announced that the first pre-production units of the Gravity had rolled off the production line.

In a recent interview, Lucid‘s CEO revealed he already tested Rivian’s SUV and said he’s “not worried”.

Asked about the competition with Rivian, Rawlinson said, “You could say, ‘How is Rivian gonna respond?’ Because Gravity is gonna be the best SUV out there, and no one will be able to compete with it”.

“To me, product is king. Bring it on […], but I’ve driven R1S, and I’ve driven the Gravity. I’m not worried,” Rawlinson added.

As seen in the SUV from Rivian, Lucid Gravity will also feature an off-road mode that improves traction and handling when driving in gravel, sand, or mud.

Although they are only planned to become available in late 2025, Lucid is developing captain chairs for the three-row SUV offering greater adjustability and a more spacious cabin.

As of now, it is still not confirmed if the California-based EV maker will add extra features to the second and third-row seats such as heating, cooling, or massage function.

Lucid Motors reported its earnings results from the second quarter of the year with revenue beating analysts’ estimates: $200.6 million versus $186.2 million.

Last week, the company reiterated its annual production guidance of 9,000 vehicles as it prepares to start producing its second model, the Gravity SUV, later this year.
