KIA‘s first pure electric vehicle KIA EV6 was named winner of a Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX award. The automaker said that over 10,000 EV6 models have been sold throughout the U.S., contributing to the 132-percent growth in sales of Kia’s electrified vehicles over the previous May record set in 2021.

“We are honored to receive this award for the EV6, which represents an important step toward Kia’s transformative ‘Plan S’ global electrification strategy,” said Steven Center, COO and EVP, Kia America. “The EV6’s modern, bold design elements and interior solutions thoughtfully integrated with intuitive technology reinforce Kia’s future-forward vision for electric vehicles.”

To determine the winners, the team at Wards evaluates new or heavily redesigned vehicle interiors and user-experience technology.  Scoring is based on a variety of metrics including design and aesthetics, comfort, materials, fit-and-finish, connectivity and infotainment, displays and controls, advanced driver assist systems and value.

“The Kia EV6 is a solid overall value, with a stylish and sporty interior and highly innovative morphing controls that save space and reduce clutter,” said Drew Winter, WardsAuto editor and judge. “That, plus its very spacious and comfortable cabin and top-notch materials, put the EV6 firmly on our 2022 Wards 10 Best Interiors & UX list.”

The company recently announced that sold in the U.S. a total of 57,941 units in May, a decrease of 28 percent year over year. After selling 2,633 units in April, the automaker sold 2,088 EV6 units in the U.S. and reached the 10,000 vehicle four months after the debut.

Sales of Kia’s electrified models were up 132-percent over the previous May record set in 2021 and up 5-percent over the all-time monthly sales record for the vehicle category set in March of 2022.

Recently, the automaker announced the arrival of the 2023 Niro model to Canada with three electrified powertrains: hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric (BEV). Second-generation Niro will debut in three options further advancing Kia’s Plan S electrification initiative of bringing 7 all-new electrified models to the country by 2025. Specification and pricing details for Canada will be announced closer to launch, KIA said.

Recently, KIA launched a new campaign for its fully electric EV6 model comparing it with the best selling Tesla Model Y. In the newsletter, KIA introduces the comparison saying: “How Kia EV6 compares to Tesla Model Y. KIA EV6 goes beyond,” enhancing the lower price, longer range and some more differences.
