In late August, a few days after announcing that one of its vice presidents was leaving the company, the electric vehicle maker Polestar said it would also replace its chief executive Thomas Ingenlath.
Michael Lohscheller, who joined on Tuesday, October 1, has previously led Opel, the Vietnamese EV maker VinFast, and Nikola, was chosen to replace Ingenlath.
In a video shared on Lohscheller’s first day at Polestar, the executive stated that the brand “is the only premium EV brand in the world”.
“I think Polestar is the only premium EV brand in the world and that needs to be very clearly positioned and that means also clearly understood by people,” he stated.
Here’s the video shared by Polestar.
The company delivered 13,150 vehicles in the second quarter of the year taking the first half of the year’s sales to 20,371 units. The figures for the third quarter are expected to be released over the next few days.
The new chief executive admits that there are “commercial business topics to address, tackle, improve, and build up”.
“Now with the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, you have a real model range and that makes the brand obviously different. I think it strengthens the brand enormously and of course you have commercial business topics to address, to tackle, to improve, to build up and make this a real global premium brand,” the CEO said.
Winfried Vahland, Polestar’s incoming Chairman, said Geely — the parent brand of the EV maker — “remains deeply committed to Polestar’s success, and with Michael at the helm, supported by a dynamic leadership team, we are well-positioned for continued innovation and growth.”
