Guangzhou-based automaker XPeng sold 8,130 vehicles in its domestic market between September 8 and 14, registration data shared on Chinese social media this Tuesday showed.
The figures jumped 21.3% sequentially from the 6,700 units registered in the first week of September — the brand’s slowest sales week since mid-July.
Last week, XPeng was the seventh best-selling new energy vehicle (NEV) brand in China.
It follows Huawei-backed Aito, with 8,600 vehicles, Xiaomi, which sold 9,800 units, and Stellantis‘ Leapmotor, recording 13,000 units.
BYD leads sales in the country, with 64,800 vehicles registered from September 8 to 14. The second and third-ranked companies last week were Tesla and Geely Galaxy, with 25,200 and 15,400 vehicles respectively.
Shanghai-based Nio Group sold 6,170 vehicles, 2,425 of them being from its main premium brand. Onvo vehicles represented 2,625 units and Firefly sold 1,125 EVs.
XPeng recently launched the new P7 sedan, and is now on track to debut its first ever hybrid-powered vehicle — range-extended version of the X9 multi-purpose van (MPV).
The company announced on Monday that the model will debut next month.
Last Friday, a new catalogue released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that the company will also feature its G7 SUV in a hybrid powertrain.
On the same day, XPeng had announced that it is issuing a physical recall of 47,490 P7+ vehicles due to poor contact in the steering assist motor sensor wiring harness.
The company announced at the same time that it is increasing the maximum speed of the P7+ intelligent driver assistant software, extending it to highways.
The speed limit of the ‘Navigation Guided Pilot’ (NGP) will be raised from 60 km/h, to a maximum of 130 km/h.
XPeng was present at the IAA Auto Show in Germany last week, where it has revealed that it plans for its P7+ model to be available in Europe “soon,” and to launch the cheaper Mona series in Europe next year.
The brand also opened its first European R&D center in Munich, as founder and CEO He Xiaopeng teased plans for local production of XPeng‘s electric vehicles.
This Monday, XPeng announced its first European vehicles have rolled off the production line in Austria, in collaboration with Magna Steyr.
