XPeng announced on Friday that it is increasing the maximum speed allowed when customers in China use its intelligent driver assistant software.
The speed limit of the ‘Navigation Guided Pilot’ (NGP) will be raised from 60 km/h, to a maximum of 130 km/h, allowing customers to use it on the highways.
The P7+ sedan, which the carmaker claims to be the “world’s first AI car,” was the first model to feature the AI Tianji 5.4.0 intelligent driving system.
When launching it, the Guangzhou-headquartered brand claimed the system has four times greater human-like driving behavior.
The model was promoted as featuring AI driving features that do not require subscription or extra payments, and are included standard with every car purchase — across both Pro and Max iterations.
It was unveiled in October 2024 and deliveries started a month after in China.
This Friday, XPeng revealed that the model will “soon” be arriving in Europe.
XPeng has delivered 72,024 P7+ vehicles since the beginning of deliveries in November 2024. From January through August, the company delivered 55,039 units of the model.
Earlier on Friday, the company announced it is recalling 47,490 P7+ vehicles due to poor contact in the steering assist motor sensor wiring harness.
The recalled vehicles represent nearly 66% of all the P7+ units delivered until August 31.
Last month, XPeng reached a new sales record with 37,709 fully electric vehicles delivered, from which 4,847 were P7+ units — 12.9% of the total, meaning about one in each 10 vehicles delivered by the company was a P7+.
Sales of the model reached their peak by year-end and have lowered month over month since then, despite slight fluctuations.
The fully electric G7 SUV, launched in early July in China, represented 18.1% of XPeng‘s deliveries last month — and became the second best-selling model after the Mona M03 sedan.
Earlier this week, the latest vehicle catalogue China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that XPeng is releasing an extended-range version of its most recent SUV.
The G7 becomes the brand’s the second model, after the X9 MPV, to feature a hybrid powertrain.
The Chinese automaker has confirmed on Friday that it is set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, featuring the same powertrain as the X9.
Both the X9 and the G7 feature 5C/800V charging. The X9 features more than 450 kilometers of battery-powered range.
