XPeng Unveils Revamped P7 Sedan, Secures 10,000 Pre-Orders Within 7 Minutes

Chinese carmaker XPeng on Wednesday unveiled a refreshed version of its P7 sedan, securing over 10,000 pre-orders in just 6 minutes and 37 seconds.

The new iteration of the P7 — a model originally launched in April 2020 — introduces improvements in range, performance, and smart driving capabilities and features the largest (87-inch) augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) as the brand continues updating its portfolio.

Earlier this year, it launched new iterations for its SUVs G6 and G9, but also for its MPV model X9. XPeng said the official launch will take place later this month.

The sedan now comes standard with an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture and a 5C ultra-fast charging battery capable of delivering 525 km of range in 10 minutes.

Maximum range has been extended to 820 km under the Chinese CLTC testing cycle, with energy efficiency of 12 kWh per 100 km. Aerodynamics have also been improved, with a drag coefficient of 0.201 Cd.

All variants are equipped with the brand’s Turing AI driving system and triple AI chips with a combined 2,250 TOPS of processing power — the highest publicly claimed among mass-market EVs globally.

The P7 supports both highway and urban Navigate on Pilot (NGP) functions. The company started last year, ditching LiDAR technology and switching to a vision-only option — following Tesla’s path.

The original P7 reached 100,000 cumulative units in March 2022, just 695 days after its initial launch — a milestone that, at the time, set a speed record among Chinese EV startups.

Ahead of the unveiling, units of the updated P7 were spotted being shipped to showrooms across China.

XPeng sold 9,100 vehicles during the week of July 28 to August 3, up from 8,400 in the previous week, according to industry data published Tuesday.

It was the company’s strongest weekly performance since the end of June. Weekly registrations had remained below 9,000 for four consecutive weeks.

The Guangzhou-based company is scheduled to report second quarter earnings on August 19.
