XPeng Launches G9L SUV in China, Readies European Launch on October 12

XPeng launched the G9L large five-seat SUV in China on Thursday, setting limited-time prices from 231,800 yuan ($34,600) across six variants spanning fully electric and extended-range powertrains.

A global launch event is scheduled to follow at the Paris Motor Show on October 12.

Launch pricing undercuts the pre-sale range that opened on August 11 at 259,800 yuan ($38,700) by 28,000 yuan ($4,200) at the entry, or 18,000 yuan ($2,700) on list price before the launch reduction.

All limited-time benefit prices already include a 10,000-yuan ($1,500) cash discount deducted from the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.

XPeng’s international release, issued shortly after, carried no prices and framed the model for export: 64 markets, production in Guangzhou and at Magna’s plant in Graz, Austria, and a development programme of 192 crash tests and 6.74 million kilometres across 26 countries.

Pricing and Lineup

XPeng structured the G9L across four trim levels — Max, Ultra SE, Ultra and Ultra Flagship — with BEV and EREV options.

Fully electric variants start with the rear-wheel-drive 702 Max at 231,800 yuan ($34,600).

All-wheel drive trims follow, starting with the 660 Ultra SE at 249,800 yuan ($37,200), the 660 AWD Ultra at 279,800 yuan ($41,700) and the 755 AWD Ultra Flagship at 309,800 yuan ($46,200).

Extended-range variants use XPeng’s Kunpeng super AWD range-extender system.

The 1602 AWD Ultra SE starts at 249,800 yuan ($37,200) and the 1602 AWD Ultra Flagship at 299,800 yuan ($44,700).

The battery-electric and range-extended Ultra SE are priced identically at 249,800 yuan. At the top of the range, the range-extended flagship is 10,000 yuan cheaper than the battery-electric one. XPeng is charging no premium for either powertrain at the volume trim.

All versions ride on an 800-volt ultra-fast-charging platform with 5C charging capability.

XPeng claims nine minutes of charging adds up to 450 km (280 miles) of range.

Range and Powertrain

BEV range under CLTC conditions spans 702 km (436 miles) for the entry Max, 660 km (410 miles) for the Ultra SE and Ultra, and 755 km (469 miles) for the Ultra Flagship.

EREV variants pair a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at up to 110 kW with a 63.3-kWh battery and a 60-liter fuel tank.

Pure-electric range reaches 435 km (270 miles) under CLTC conditions, while combined range hits 1,602 km (995 miles).

The engine functions exclusively as a generator and never drives the wheels.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.45 seconds in AWD BEV form and 4.95 seconds in EREV configuration. Braking from 100 km/h to standstill measures 34.2 meters.

Standard Equipment

XPeng claims over 100 features normally found in vehicles priced above 500,000 yuan ($74,600) come standard across the entire G9L range.

Every variant includes rear-wheel steering with a 5.4-meter minimum turning radius, dual-chamber air suspension, intelligent variable-damping shock absorbers and the company’s AI chassis fusion control system.

Body torsional rigidity stands at 56,000 N·m/deg.

Comfort features standard across the lineup include a 12.5-liter sterile air-cooled car refrigerator, nine pieces of dual-layer laminated acoustic glass, an 88-inch panoramic head-up display, 23 in-car speakers, three 50-watt wireless phone chargers and 1,152 liters of trunk space plus 230 liters of underfloor storage.

Safety systems include aviation-grade redundancy — steer-by-wire triple redundancy, drive-system dual redundancy and door-lock quadruple redundancy — along with IP68 and IP69K battery protection.

Autonomous Driving

XPeng’s Turing AI chips power the G9L’s autonomous driving stack.

The entry Max carries one chip and runs a distilled version of the company’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action model, called VLA Lite.

The Ultra SE carries two chips for 1,500 TOPS and runs the full VLA model. The Ultra and Ultra Flagship carry three chips for 2,250 TOPS and add the Turing VLM cabin model, enabling cabin-and-driving integration features such as voice-controlled curbside parking.

XPeng says the second-generation VLA model increased onboard parameters 3.5 times over the previous version, sped up end-to-end decision response by 300% and added a predictive world model capable of looking six seconds ahead.

Launch Benefits

Buyers who place a 5,000-yuan deposit before November 15 qualify for a package of limited-time incentives XPeng values at more than 82,000 yuan ($12,200) at maximum.

Beyond the 10,000-yuan cash discount already reflected in the limited-time pricing, the package includes a second-row entertainment screen worth 10,000 yuan at no additional cost, free Fjord Grey exterior paint valued at 6,000 yuan and free Sahara Orange interior trim worth 3,000 yuan.

Optional upgrades carry substantial discounts: the driver and passenger AI seat package drops to 5,000 yuan from 20,000 yuan, 21-inch vortex wheels fall to 3,000 yuan from 10,000 yuan and 22-inch petal sport wheels decline to 6,000 yuan from 12,000 yuan.

Trade-in allowances of 10,000 yuan for same-brand vehicles and 5,000 yuan for other brands are also available.

Financing options include two-year zero-interest plans. Buyers who opt for points instead receive 40,000 mall points.

XPeng also offers a charging card providing 1,000 kWh per year for six years to first owners.

Positioning

The G9L measures 5,120 mm in length on a 3,100 mm wheelbase, slotting between the smaller G9 at 4,891 mm and the six-seat GX flagship at 5,265 mm.

XPeng positions the G9L and GX as a dual-flagship pair sharing the 9-series platform on SEPA 3.0 architecture, with the five-seat G9L avoiding direct overlap with the six-seat GX.

He Xiaopeng said at the launch that the GX, on sale since May, has delivered 25,000 units in four months and held a top-three position in the 300,000-yuan-plus large SUV segment for two months. President Wang Fengying said before the launch that the G9L has no rival globally at its price.

The domestic launch follows the start of right-hand-drive G9L production at XPeng’s Guangzhou plant on September 5, with the initial batch bound for Australia.

XPeng plans to launch the G9L across 64 countries and regions.

The European premiere at the Paris Motor Show will include a press day on October 12 and public days from October 13 to 18, where XPeng is expected to disclose European specifications, powertrains and pricing.

The European range will include six- and seven-seat versions not available in China.

Founder and CEO He Xiaopeng confirmed during the Q2 earnings call on August 24 that Chinese deliveries would begin in September.

XPeng delivered 243,111 vehicles in the first eight months of 2026, down 10.5% year on year.

Meeting the company’s full-year target of 550,000 to 600,000 deliveries requires an average of about 76,700 vehicles per month across the final four months — well above the all-time monthly record of 42,013 set in October 2025.
