Xiaomi CEO Says Sales Volume Is “3 To 5 Times Higher Than Expected”

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun provided a live update on Thursday regarding the production progress of the company’s inaugural model, the SU7.

During the first complete production week, Xiaomi recorded 2,394 units, translating to an approximate monthly rate of nearly 10,000 units.

Among his remarks, Jun noted that the sales volume exceeded expectations by “three to five times,” presenting both a boost and a challenge. Xiaomi CEO says the great demand is also an “headache” despite enhancing that the “partners are relatively strong” and that “the [production] ramp up has been very fast”.

Additionally, Jun announced the commencement of deliveries on Thursday in two major cities, Beijing and Shenzhen.

Xiaomi’s SU7 made its official debut on March 28th, surpassing expectations and prompting extensive queues at retail outlets across China. Exclusive information obtained by the China Business Network reporter revealed that by April 2nd, orders for the SU7 had already surpassed 40,000.

Positioned as a competitor to the Tesla Model 3, Xiaomi’s first foray into the automotive sector involves a substantial $10 billion investment over the next decade, with the goal of securing a position among the top five global automakers.

During the launch event, Jun expressed Xiaomi’s vision for a seamlessly connected ecosystem, where human interaction with cars and homes creates a unified smart living experience.
