Tesla EU Sales Decline in August, Despite UK, Spain and Norway Growth

Monthly registrations from Tesla continue to decline all across Europe as we enter the ninth month of 2025.

In August, the company sold 13,162 vehicles across its European markets, a drop of 19.8% compared to the 16,413 units registered in August 2024.

Registrations tumbled in Germany to 1,441 vehicles, despite the overall growth in EV adoption in August, compared to the same period a year ago.

Despite registrations being up by about 300 units from July’s (1,110), the figures represent a 39.2% plunge from the 2,370 vehicles recorded a year ago.

In August, the EV maker sold 1,331 vehicles in France, a plunge of 47.2% compared to the same period a year ago, when it had registered 2,523 units.

In the Netherlands, the company registered 776 units — 49.8% below the 1,547 vehicles sold in August 2024, according to data from BOVAG.

Despite announcing new incentives for the Swedish market last month, Tesla‘s registrations in the country continued to plunge in August.

The US EV maker sold 210 vehicles in Sweden last month, according to data published by Mobility Sweden earlier this week.

The figures represent an 84.4% drop from the same period a year earlier, when overall sales — still driven by the previous version of the Model Y — totaled 1,348 units.

Sales in Denmark also plunged by 41.8% year over year, from 813 to 473 units.

However, in Norway, where electric vehicles make up 94.5% of all car sales so far this year, the US brand remained the best-selling brand.

Tesla sold 3,014 vehicles in the Norwegian market in August, a 25% rise from the 2,485 units sold in the previous year.

The EV maker sold 3,243 vehicles in the UK, a 7.6% increase from the 3,013 units registered in the same period a year ago, and a 228.6% sequential jump.

Last month was the brand’s second best August ever in the UK. In Ireland, however, sales fell by 36.7%, from 365 to 231 units.

In Portugal, and according to official registration data from ACAP, the EV maker registered 233 vehicles, a 28.7% jump year over year (from 181 units).

While Spain does not disclose official registration data per brand, the EU-EVs platform notes that Tesla has sold 1,439 units, a 162.1% surge from the 549 vehicles sold a year before.

The same data shows that the company registered 256 Tesla units in Switzerland last month, less than half of the 629 vehicles sold last year.

Italy’s sales saw a slight drop to 416 units, compared to the 435 vehicles registered a year ago. The company sold 99 electric vehicles in the Czech Republic, down from 155 in August 2024.

In the final week of August, Tesla introduced a new variant of the Model Y in Europe — the Model Y Performance.

The model is already available to order in most markets, and deliveries are expected to start this month already in countries such as Germany or the Netherlands.

Outside Europe, the company is experiencing growth in South Korea, where Tesla hit a new record in August with 7,974 deliveries. On Friday, Tesla announced that the Cybertruck model is now available in the Asian country.

In its domestic market, and according to Motor Intelligence estimates, the company registered 55,500 vehicles last month â€” a new record year to date, and the second consecutive month of growth year over year.

As it keeps awaiting regulatory approval for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in Europe, Tesla is now launching its autonomous ride-hailing service in North America.

The company rolled out on Thursday its Robotaxi app for iOS devices across the US and Canada, as it plans to remove safety operator from the vehicles by the year end.
