Nio Inc. launched the EC6 Aura Edition and announced a new design package for the Onvo L90 on Tuesday, the fourth time in about two weeks that the company has added a special edition or design package to an existing model.
None of the four launches changes the powertrain, battery or driver-assistance hardware.
All four rely on exclusive colours, wheels and trim to draw fresh attention to models whose sales have fallen sharply.
EC6 Aura Edition
The EC6 Aura Edition starts at 369,800 yuan ($55,200) for the full vehicle purchase, including a 100-kWh battery pack.
Under Nio’s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) rental plan, the price drops to 261,800 yuan ($39,100), plus a monthly battery rental fee of 1,128 yuan ($170).
The Aura Edition costs 11,800 yuan ($1,800), or 3.3%, more than the 2026 EC6, which starts at 358,000 yuan ($53,500), according to Nio’s April 2 release.
It is the EC6’s third special edition this year. The Natural Wonderland Edition launched in April at 370,000 yuan ($55,300), and the Champion Edition in June at 373,000 yuan ($55,700).
The Aura Edition is 200 yuan ($30) cheaper than the former and 3,200 yuan ($500) cheaper than the latter.
The coupe SUV comes in an exclusive Aura Purple body colour with matte metallic gray exterior trim, 21-inch multi-spoke black wheels and purple brake calipers.
Inside, purple accents run through the seat stitching, seat belts and front seatbacks, and the headrests carry an embossed logo.
An exclusive screen theme adds a purple glow that is linked to the cabin’s ambient lighting.
Customers who lock in orders by September 30, get a five-year loan with no down payment and the first two years interest-free.
They also get a free upgrade to a streaming rearview mirror valued at 3,800 yuan ($600) and, a free driver’s zero-gravity seat valued at 8,500 yuan ($1,300), and five years of Nio’s NOP+ navigation assist at no charge.
Buyers who choose the 100-kWh battery rental also get their first year of rental fees at half price, through a buy-one-get-one-free offer.
All Nio-brand orders locked between September 14 and October 11 also get a 5,000-yuan ($700) holiday package.
EC6 Sales Slump
The Aura Edition arrives as EC6 deliveries have slumped.
The coupe SUV sold 322 units in August, down 71.9% year over year, according to China’s Passenger Car Association (CPCA) data.
Over the first eight months of 2026, EC6 sales totalled 3,873 units, down 70.9% from a year earlier.
That equals 1.5% of Nio Inc.’s deliveries over the same period. In 2024, the EC6 sold 27,226 units according to CPCA data, equal to 12.3% of the company’s deliveries.
Onvo L90 Design Packages
Onvo will put a new exterior design package and a gray luxury interior package for the L90 on sale on Wednesday.
Display vehicles will start arriving at stores in all 31 of China’s provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions the same day. Onvo did not disclose pricing for either package.
The exterior package uses Starry Blue as the main body colour with a gold upper body and titanium trim outlining a floating roof.
Starry Blue first appeared on September 11, in the L80 Starlight design package.
The gray interior pairs a cool-toned base with warm ambient light.
The L90 is priced from 265,800 yuan ($39,700) to 299,800 yuan ($44,800) with the battery included.
Under the BaaS scheme, prices range from 179,800 yuan ($26,900) to 213,800 yuan ($31,900).
L90 Delivery Plunge
Deliveries of the L90 have also fallen well below post-launch levels.
The model delivered 2,209 units in August, down 79.1% from 10,575 units in August 2025, when deliveries began.
The L90 peaked at 11,722 deliveries in October 2025 and has trended lower since.
L90 deliveries totalled 19,945 units in the first eight months of 2026.
In August, the L90 accounted for 6.2% of Nio Inc’s deliveries, down from 33.8% a year earlier.
A Playbook Pioneered by Firefly
The special-edition push follows a playbook first used aggressively by Firefly, Nio’s compact EV brand.
Firefly sells a single model and has launched six special editions since August 2025. The latest, the “spiaggia club” edition, went on sale on August 28, limited to 666 units at 135,800 yuan ($20,300).
The others are the Nomadic Maillard, Night Creature, Pegasus Rhapsody, a millennium-themed edition and the Pixel Player.
Each Firefly edition is set apart by exclusive paint, decals, wheels and interior finishes.
Production runs have ranged from 99 units for the Pegasus Rhapsody to 666, and pricing has carried premiums of about 13% to 20% over the base model’s starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,900).
Prices have run from 133,800 yuan ($20,000) to 137,800 yuan ($20,600), a premium of about 12% to 15% over the base model’s starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,900).
The Pixel Player edition, limited to 333 units and priced at 135,800 yuan ($20,300), sold out in under eight hours after going on sale in June.
Nio’s founder and Chief Executive Officer William Li has said Firefly will remain a single-model brand in 2027, relying on special editions and upgrades.
The main Nio brand and Onvo have now adopted the same approach.
On Monday, Nio launched the ES8 Lanyue package with 22-inch forged wheels with gold calipers, a day after delivering the 150,000th third-generation ES8.
The package costs 25,800 yuan ($3,900) on the Executive Luxury version and 10,800 yuan ($1,600) on the Executive Signature.
For Onvo, the L80 Starlight package launched on September 11, listed at 16,800 yuan ($2,500) with a limited-time price of 10,080 yuan ($1,500). It adds Starry Blue paint and 21-inch wheels.
Group Growth Masks Concentration
Nio Inc delivered 35,836 vehicles in August across its three brands — 21,174 from the Nio brand, 8,810 from Onvo and 5,852 from Firefly — up 14.5% year over year. The Nio brand delivered 21,174, Onvo 8,810 and Firefly 5,852.
In the first eight months of 2026, total deliveries reached 262,893 units, up 57.9% from a year earlier. Cumulative deliveries across the three brands stood at 1,260,485 as of August 31, according to the company.
Cumulative deliveries across all three brands stood at 1,260,485 as of August 31, according to the company.
Growth is uneven across the brands. Over the first eight months, Nio-brand deliveries rose 64.5% and Firefly’s 180.3%, while Onvo’s rose 13.2%. Onvo’s August deliveries nearly halved from a year earlier.
Within the Nio brand, volume is concentrated in one model.
The third-generation ES8 large SUV has become the Nio brand’s dominant sales driver since its launch in late September 2025, surpassing 140,000 cumulative deliveries by August 21.
From January to July, the ES8 ranked first in cumulative sales in China’s large SUV segment and in the segment priced above 400,000 yuan ($59,700), according to Nio.
Older Nio-brand models have contracted sharply.
The ES6 delivered 875 units in July, down 28% from June.
The EC6, ET5 Touring and ET5 sedan have all recorded year-on-year declines of more than 60% through the first eight months of 2026.
Special editions are among Nio Inc.’s cheapest tools for slowing those declines, because exclusive colours and trim need no retooling or platform investment.
Firefly’s limited runs add urgency without touching list prices. Nio has not announced production caps for the EC6 Aura Edition or the L90 packages.
