Lotus and Nio announced this Thursday at the Beijing Auto Show the cooperation in charging and battery swapping technologies. As of today, Nio has over 2,400 battery swap stations and 21,000 chargers across China.

The announcement comes after Clive Chapman, the son of Lotus founder, visited the Nio booth earlier this week, where he explored the fourth-generation battery swap station.

The new generation enables drivers to swap out their car batteries in less than three minutes. Each fourth generation battery swap station features 1,016 tops of computing power and 4 Orin X chips from the tech giant Nvidia, with Nio aiming to build 1,000 new stations in China this year.

Nio and Lotus will cooperate in areas related to charging and swapping including battery standards, charging and swapping technologies, battery asset management and operations.

Additionally, both automakers will cooperate also on service network construction and operations, vehicle R&D and customization, and connectivity, Nio said.

Lotus announced this Thursday a limited version for China of its Emeya model starting at 1.368,000 yuan and limited to 31 units.

Earlier today, Nio launched the 2024 Executive Edition of its ET7 sedan at the Beijing Auto Show. The new version of the sedan initially unveiled in January 2021 starts 428,000 yuan.

The Executive Edition brings improved interior and exterior design, chassis control, intelligent cockpit, intelligent driving, vehicle safety, and charging performance.

General Motors’ joint venture in China SAIC GM has recently joined Nio’s charging network in China. The development follows a recent announcement in early April involving Jiyue, a brand formed through a collaboration between Geely Group and Baidu, which has also begun utilizing Nio‘s charging stations.

More than 80% of the electricity provided by Nio chargers in China is to drivers of other new energy vehicle (NEV) brands.

Nio delivered 11,866 vehicles in March, marking a 14.3% increase compared to the previous year. Of the deliveries, 6,737 were SUVs and 5,129 were sedans.
