On the first day of August, EV reported that around twenty Nikola trucks were parked at J.B. Hunt’s headquarters suggesting that the company had placed a second order of Nikola trucks.
On Friday, the giant supply chain solutions provider announced it added 20 Nikola Tre fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) to further electrify its fleet.
Nikola shares are trading 4 percent higher at $4.35 shortly after the announcement.
In July 2023, Nikola announced that J.B. Hunt ordered 10 battery-electric and three hydrogen fuel cell trucks.
The company said that several of these new units will support its Intermodal operations in California and “will primarily be utilized for port and drayage transport.”
J.B. Hunt has currently more than 200 equipment vehicles that are either battery-electric, hydrogen-electric, or renewable natural gas (RNG) powered.
Currently, the trucks used acquired by the supply chain solution provider, are serving its key routes mainly in Los Angeles and Phoenix with Nikola’s hydrogen brand, HYLA, supplying the hydrogen and fueling infrastructure.
In July, as the company continued expanding its infrastructure across the U.S. and Canada, Nikola’s station located in California achieved a record day by refueling 28 trucks and dispensing over 850 kg of hydrogen.
The Arizona-based company sold 72 units in the second quarter, bringing its total sales for the first half of the year to 112 units.
