Lucid’s upcoming SUV, the Gravity, will be equipped with Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) from Everspin, the supplier announced on Tuesday.
Three years ago, in June 2021, the company made a similar announcement for Lucid’s debut model, the Air sedan. By then, Everspin said that Lucid designed a 256-kilobit MRAM to use in Air’s powertrain system.
Everspin’s Persyst MRAM will enable efficient data logging and parameter storage to optimize the performance of Gravity’s powertrain.
In 2022, Rimac Technology also selected the same MRAM for its fully electric $2.2 million Nevera model.
“The MR25H256A, a 256Kb serial MRAM, was selected because it meets the AEC Q100 Grade 1 specification of -40C to 125C temperature operation,” Everspin said in a statement.
Later this quarter, the company plans to start producing Gravity at its Casa Grande factory with prices starting below $80,000.
According to the MRAM manufacturer, the Gravity SUV will be capable of handling the most demanding memory workloads while safeguarding critical user data, even in the event of power loss or disruption.
Lucid delivered 2,781 units of its debut model Lucid Air between July and September. Production declined sequentially by 14.5 percent to 1,805 units. For this year, Lucid aims to produce 9,000 units.
