The UK announced this Monday it is easing rules on electric vehicles, as the country is planning to back its national industry amid rising global trade tensions. UK's Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed plans to boost EV production, including bringing back the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel car sales.

Polestar set a new sales record in the UK in March with 2,434 vehicles sold, industry data shows. Compared to March 2024, sales jumped 203.11% bringing first quarter total figures to 3,695 units, up 184.7% year over year.

BYD sales reached a new record in the United Kingdom with nearly 6,500 vehicles sold in March. Figures represent a new record since the Shenzhen-based carmaker arrived in the UK two years ago and a year-on-year jump of more than 750%, industry data released earlier this Friday showed.

Tesla sold 7,164 vehicles in the UK in March, up 2.4% from a year earlier, according to industry data released on Friday. The U.S. electric vehicle maker registered 12,474 cars in the country during the first quarter, marking a 6% year-over-year increase.

Polestar delivered 357 vehicles in Germany in March, matching registrations from the same month a year ago, according to data from Germany’s motor transport authority KBA.

BYD saw its sales in Germany jumping over 400% year over year to 805 units in March — nearly doubling its previous record reached last November with 431 units.

Chinese carmaker XPeng registered 176 vehicles in Germany in March, hitting a new record for the second consecutive month. The Guangzhou-based manufacturer, which is expected to unveil its first-ever hybrid model later this month, expanded to the German market in May last year.

Tesla registered 2,229 units in Germany during March, data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) showed on Thursday. The figures represent a 42.5% decline year-over-year.

Tesla sold 78,828 vehicles in China in March, a decline of 11.5% year over year, according to data released on Wednesday from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). 

EV maker Rivian sold 3,910 vehicles in the United States last month, down 20.1% year over year, estimates from Motor Intelligence showed on Tuesday. The data suggests that sales of the California-based manufacturer dropped by 26.6% in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, totaling 11,070 vehicles.

China giant BYD sold 270 vehicles in the Netherlands in March, up 58% from the same period in 2024 — according to official data released on Tuesday.

XPeng sold 87 vehicles in the Dutch market in March, down 6.5% from a year earlier, according to official data released on Tuesday. The Guangzhou-based EV maker registered 246 vehicles in the Netherlands during the first quarter, slightly below the 248 recorded in the same period last year.

Xiaomi reported on Tuesday it delivered more than 29,000 vehicles in March, surpassing the 20,000 units threshold for the sixth consecutive month. 

Beijing based carmaker Li Auto reported earlier this Tuesday that it delivered 36,674 vehicles, an increase of 26.5% year-over-year.
