XPeng Unveils Refreshed X9 MPV in China, Pre-Sales Prices Start at $54,500

XPeng on Tuesday unveiled a refreshed version of its X9 multi-purpose van (MPV), with pre-orders opening immediately and prices starting at 399,800 yuan, or about $54,500.

“The new X9 comes with hardware upgrades worth up to 80,000 yuan [$10,900] and incorporates a 35% refresh in design and components”, the company said at the unveiling event.

The revamped MPV uses an 800V system with energy consumption as low as 16.2 kWh/100km (about 3.84 miles per kWh). It offers two battery options—94.8 kWh (LFP) and 105 kWh (NMC) — and comes in single or dual-motor variants.

The model comes in six exterior colors and three interior ones, and with a standard AI Smart Driving Blue Light. It features five power-assisted doors and intelligent massage modes on the seats.

The Guangzhou-based brand said it invested 50 million yuan ($6.81 million) in noise, vibration, and harshness improvements, stating that X9’s cabin features “million-level” quietness.

Compared to the first generation X9, 2025 X9 starting prices increased $5,450 (40,000 yuan), about 10% up from the previous version.

The company confirmed on the launch event for the new X9 that older versions will be eligible for upgrades, including smart-driving features. The upgrade plan will be revealed on the official launch even next week.

The updated X9 removes the LiDAR system from the original model, featuring XPeng’s vision-based Turing AI smart driving system instead, also introduced recently in the G6 and G9 models.

An extended range (EREV) version of the X9 was spotted earlier this week refueling in China with further details expected to be announced at the launch event.

Revamped G6 and G9

XPeng released last month updated versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs in China, both launching with lower starting prices than their first generation as it aims to refresh its lineup and maintain the competitivness of the portfolio in the world’s largest NEV market.

Last month, XPeng launched refreshed versions of its G6 and G9 SUVs in China. The vehicles’ prices started lower than their first generation’s, as opposed to the X9.

However, the brand is offering a $700 (5,000 yuan) deduction on the final price of the vehicle if the costumers place a $300 (2,000 yuan) deposit before the official launch.

Last week, XPeng said it delivered 33,205 vehicles in March, hitting the 30,000 unit mark for the fifth consecutive month and soaring 268% year over year. The Chinese brand delivered more than 94,000 vehicles in the first quarter, jumping over the company’s guidance of 91,000 to 93,000 units.

The company announced over the weekend that it has officially arrived in Poland, now XPeng’s largest market in Eastern Europe. The carmaker aims to double its presence from 30 to 60 markets during 2025.

As of the time of writing, XPeng‘s U.S.-listed shares are trading 8.5% lower at $16.22 after Donald Trump imposed earlier this Tuesday a new 50% tariff on Chinese goods sending the U.S.-listed China stocks lower. The stock is up 42% from January 1, after registering a 270% surge since its founder and CEO He Xiaopeng increased his stake in August last year.
