Tesla will increase the prices of all its vehicles in Canada beginning February 1, the company warned on its website.
In about a week, the price of the Model 3 will rise by up to C$9,000 ($6,255), while the Model Y (not yet the refreshed version) will see increases of up to C$4,000. Prices for all versions of the Model S and Model X will also go up by C$4,000.
Over the last few weeks, the models have become more expensive for Canadian consumers due to the end of the C$5,000 iZEV rebate plus Tesla’s recent price increase of C$1,000.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned earlier this week that his government is prepared to respond if U.S. President Donald Trump imposes a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports on February 1.
“If the president does choose to proceed with tariffs, Canada will respond — and everything is on the table,” Trudeau said.
Canada already imposes a 100% tariff on electric vehicles imported from China, including Tesla cars manufactured at its GigaShanghai facility.
Trump, on Monday, directed federal officials to review U.S. trade relationships for any perceived unfair practices, including those with Canada, Mexico, and China. The president has pledged import duties of 25% on Canadian and Mexican goods, as well as 10% on global imports and 60% on Chinese goods.
Tesla has been offering inventory discounts on its newly launched Cybertruck in the United States. Discounts for the electric pickup truck have increased earlier this week to as much as $2,110, following last week’s initial reductions of up to $1,600 on non-Foundation Series models. Prices for demo Cybertruck units have been cut by up to $2,630.
The Cybertruck was recently added to the list of vehicles eligible for the $7,500 U.S. federal EV tax credit, though it remains unclear if Trump’s trade policies will affect the incentive program.
