Rivian’s C-Level Executive Takes Third Title in 2.5 Years

Electric vehicle maker Rivian has reassigned senior executive Michael Callahan to the role of Chief Accounting Officer, marking his third title change since joining the company two and a half years ago.

Last year, the company saw several top executives leave, including the Chief Accounting Officer, Chief Communications Officer, VP of Manufacturing Operations and its sales chief.

Jeffrey Baker, Rivian’s previous Chief Accounting Officer, resigned a year ago. Three weeks later, Chief Commercial Officer and President for Business Growth Kjell Gruner departed after just 11 months at the company.

Both executives said they were leaving to “pursue other opportunities.”

The new Chief Accounting Officer Callahan was hired in February 2023 as Chief Legal Officer, a few days after the founder and CEO RJ Scaringe announced a 6% workforce lay off.

The executive reported directly to the EV maker’s chief and led the company’s legal, ethics and compliance, public policy and regulatory teams.

Last June, he was appointed Chief Administrative Officer, expanding his remit to include Rivian’s communications, people and sustainability teams.

According to the company’s website, Callahan is now the company’s Chief Accounting Officer.

The executive previously served as legal chief at LinkedIn and Yahoo.

Before joining Rivian, Callahan was Executive Director of the Arthur and Toni Rembe Rock Center for Corporate Governance and Professor of the Practice of Law at Stanford University.

The new role at the EV maker was first reported by X user Hilbe.

Cláudio Afonso founded CARBA in early 2021 and launched the news blog EV later that year. Following a 1.5-year hiatus, he relaunched EV in April 2024. In late 2024, he also started AV, a blog dedicated to the autonomous vehicle industry.
