Nio’s Denmark Distributor Opens EV Showroom for Free Meetings, Events

Nio‘s showroom in Kastrup, near Copenhagen, is being marketed as a free venue for meetings, talks and networking events, according to the Danish Nio website operated by distributor Nic. Christiansen Group.

The offering is promoted on the Danish Nio website, operated by local distributor Nic. Christiansen Group (NCG).

The initiative mirrors Nio‘s broader practice of using Chinese and European retail locations for community-oriented activities beyond vehicle sales.

The premium EV maker adopted a similar approach in its company-owned Nio Houses in Germany, where it launched last year a paid co-working rental model.

The Shanghai-headquartered brand first entered Denmark in October 2022, together with Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

However, contrary to other countries of the same expansion wave, the company never opened a Nio House in the Scandinavian market.

Nio House and Nio Space Concepts

Nio Houses are the company’s flagship community-oriented showrooms — large, multi-purpose spaces that go far beyond a traditional car dealership.

Each Nio House typically includes seven areas: a vehicle gallery, co-working space, meeting rooms, a library, a café, a lounge, and a children’s play area called Joy Camp.

The first Nio House opened in November 2017 on Beijing’s Chang’an Avenue, spanning over 3,000 square meters across two floors.

By the end of 2019, Nio operated 22 of the flagship showrooms across China.

In October 2021, the company debuted the format in Europe with the opening of the Nio House in Oslo, followed by Berlin in 2022 and additional locations in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Stockholm, and Gothenburg.

Alongside the flagship Houses, Nio also operates smaller showrooms known as Nio Spaces, which are primarily focused on vehicle display and typically located outside city centers.

The format serves as a lighter-footprint complement to the Houses.

In mid-2023, the company introduced a third format — the Nio Hub — which combines a showroom, delivery center, and service workshop in a single location.

Unlike Nio Houses, which are positioned as lifestyle and community spaces in city centers, Nio Hubs are designed as operationally focused facilities, typically located near major highways.

The first Nio Hub opened in Munich in June 2023, followed by the Nio Hub Utrecht in Breukelen, the Netherlands, in August of that year.

Danish Footprint

In April 2024, the brand opened a Nio Hub in Ishøj, southwest of Copenhagen, adjacent to the E20 highway — making it the third in Europe at the time.

The facility has since closed, as demand for the premium brand’s vehicles remained slow.

Last year, EV exclusively reported that Nio had closed its only battery swap station in Denmark, marking the first time the Shanghai-based company had shuttered such a facility anywhere in Europe.

The company has since appointed Denmark’s Nic. Christiansen Group to handle the import and sale of its cars in the country, as part of its shift from its direct-sales strategy in Europe.

In both Denmark, where it relaunched late last year, and across new European markets, the company has collaborated with local distributors to increase demand for its vehicles and reduce fixed infrastructure costs.

As of the end of 2025, Nio operated 171 Nio Houses globally — a net reduction of nine from the prior year and the first annual decline since the first flagship showroom opened in 2017.

What’s Offered

Nio‘s distributor in Denmark opened the current Nio Space in early 2026, replacing an earlier pop-up on Islands Brygge — both spaces located in Copenhagen.

According to the listing, the Nio Space in Copenhagen includes a meeting room with capacity for 10 people, a lounge area, and a showroom that can seat up to 150 guests for larger events.

The company’s website describes the spaces as Nordic-styled, with catering available and free parking.

The listing also highlights that Berlingske’s financial podcast, Millionærklubben, records episodes at the venue with a live audience — positioning the space as a media-friendly facility, not just a vehicle showroom.

Different Strategy, Same Challenge

Unlike Germany, where Nio introduced paid co-working and podcast studio rentals at some company-operated Nio Houses, the Danish offering is being promoted as free of charge.

In the other four European markets, Nio charges up to €20 per hour for meeting rooms and €50 per hour for podcast studios, with availability managed through the Nio app or external booking platforms.

That initiative was framed as a revenue-generating measure as the company struggled with low European sales volumes.

Additionally, Nio is currently looking for sub-tenants for its flagship showrooms across Europe — including Germany, as reported by Manager Magazin.

Nio Sales in Denmark

Nio Inc. — including both its premium brand and the Firefly sub-brand registered just 12 vehicles in Denmark in 2025.

In the first four months of 2026, a total of 11 vehicles were registered so far — with a majority of seven units having been listed in February.

All of the vehicles registered in the Danish market from the group have been Firefly EVs.

Earlier this year, Nio‘s distributor in the market also opened pop-up showrooms in Aarhus and Odense, expanding its retail presence beyond Copenhagen to cover the country’s three largest cities.
