Nio Sweden Registrations Hit New All-Time High in August Amid ET5 Campaign

Shanghai-based EV maker Nio has registered 29 vehicles in Sweden in August, reaching a new record since it expanded to the Nordic country in October 2022.

According to data published by Mobility Sweden on Monday, August figures nearly doubled both sequentially and year over year.

The premium brand had sold 15 vehicles in July and in August 2024.

Although the sub-brand Firefly has already begun deliveries in the Netherlands and Norway, the company has not yet launched the compact EV model in the Swedish market.

The previous record had been set in October 2023, a year after it entered the market, when it sold 28 vehicles.

The new highest result in Sweden is driven by a major campaign on its entry-level model — the sedan ET5 — and comes amid an all time record for the company’s global deliveries with over 31,300 units handed over worldwide in August.

All of the units sold last month, according to data published by Mobility Sweden on Monday, were Nio ET5s.

The vehicle is priced from SEK 556,000 (about $58,630) in the Swedish market, while the ET5 Touring starts at SEK 576,000 ($60,740).

The company is running a campaign on both the ET5 and ET5T variants, offering a discounted leasing price of SEK 3,982 and SEK 4,653 per month, respectively, on a 36-month contract.

Already available in July, the campaign led sales to recover from just one unit in June — the lowest figures in two and a half years — to 15 units. Of those, 12 were ET5s.

The vehicles are 2023 ET5 and 2024 ET5 Touring stock vehicles.

Both models were recently refreshed in China, however, the updated versions have not been launched in Europe.

The brand’s lineup in Sweden also includes the ET7 sedan and the EL8 (ES8 in China), EL6 (ES6), and EL7 (ES7) SUVs.

However, none of these models recorded any registrations in August.

The Nio Group includes not only the Nio brand but also Onvo, only sold domestically, and Firefly, for which it has begun European deliveries last month, in Norway and the Netherlands.

Last month, 23,362 vehicles were registered in Sweden, with 15,463 of them being new energy vehicles — a 66.2% market share.

From those, 7,287 were fully electric, representing 31.2% of vehicle registrations in August. EV sales dropped slightly from the same period a year ago, when 7,477 out of 22,169 units were battery electric vehicles.

One of Nio‘s main competitors in the premium sector, Geely‘s brand Zeekr, registered 119 vehicles in the country last month.

Polestar, which is also backed by Geely, remained the top-seller among EV brands, with 428 units.

It was followed by Tesla, which sold 210 vehicles.

The US brand’s sales continue to plunge in Sweden, dropping over 84% in August when compared to the same period a year ago.
