Electric vehicle maker Nio said on Tuesday it is offering free access to its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program for up to 60,000 km to buyers of its ET5 and ET7 models in Germany.

Customers who order one of the two sedans by June 30, will get two years of the battery as a service (BaaS) program, which covers the monthly subscription fee of up to €289, the €10 swap service fee, and electricity costs of €0.39 per kWh.

The offer includes up to 200 battery swaps at its stations. Currently, the company has 19 battery swap stations across the Europe’s largest car maker and a total of 59 in spread across the continent.

Although battery swaps in China are still in an early stage of adoption, Nio has provided an average over 120,000 battery swaps per day during the recent Chinese New Year holiday.

The promotion in the German market applies to both private and business customers purchasing and only to existing stock as the company aims to sell the vehicles it has storaged.

“Order a Nio ET5 or Nio ET7 by June 30, 2025, and receive Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) for free. During the promotional period, you will also get 200 complimentary battery swaps, including energy [charging], at our Power Swap Stations,” Nio said in the latest newsletter.

Nio registered 31 vehicles in Germany in December, bringing its total deliveries in the country to 398 units in 2024 — a drop of 68% from 2023.

Nio expanded to the German market in October 2022 and registered 1,263 units in 2023. Germany brought its EV subsidy program to an abrupt halt at the end of 2023 slowing down sales in 2024.

The EV brand stated that, “for 2 years, you won’t have to worry about the monthly BaaS fee (up to €289), the €10 swap service fee, or the electricity costs of €0.39/kWh,” noting that the offer is limited to “up to 60,000 km.”

After extending in October its 0% financing incentive for its two sedans — the Nio ET7 and ET5 — through the end of 2024, the EV maker announced an additional direct discount in mid-December for customers purchasing one of its sedans.

By then, the EV maker started offering a €15,000 discount on its flagship ET7 sedan, and a €8,000 price reduction for the smaller, more affordable ET5 until the year end.

As part of its entry into the taxi industry, Nio announced in July a partnership with the ride-hailing platform Freenow, offering specific pricing conditions for operators integrating Nio vehicles into their fleets.
