Shanghai-headquartered NIO is currently in the final tests of its second sedan NIO ET5 in China, as shown in a video shared on Sunday. The EV maker will start mass producing the model at its second factory located at NeoPark in Hefei, Anhui province.

The model has an estimated range of 1,000 km and will arrive in Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands during Spring 2023.

The ET5 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds having a breaking distance of 33.9 meters. The model comes with nine exterior color options and features eight drive modes: Sport, Sport+, Comfort, Eco, Snow, Sand, Wet, and Custom, an exclusive drive mode.

NIO Aquila Super Sensing grants a 360º visual perception thanks to 33 high-performance sensing units, including an ultralong-range high-resolution LiDAR, seven 8 MP high-resolution cameras, and also four 3 MP light-sensitive surround-view cameras.

In addition, it also feature one ADMS (Advanced Driver Monitoring System), five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, GPS, IMU, and V2X, according to NIO.

The electric drive system features a 150 kW induction motor in the front and a 210 kW permanent magnet motor at the rear, making high performance, better safety, and redundancy a reality, NIO explains.

The company adds that the model continuously distributes power for different driving scenarios and that the permanent magnet motor uses the SiC power module to reduce both energy consumption and noise.

NIO plans to enter the U.S. market in 2025 and deploy the first Battery Swap Station in the country as soon as November 2022, two people familiar with the matter told EV.

After entering Europe through Norway in September 2021, the company is very close to arriving in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and The Netherlands. For 2023, as EV reported on July 13, NIO is planning to enter 9 European markets including Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic.

Last Thursday, a video leaked on the internet showed over one hundred units of NIO ET7 units at the Shanghai Port waiting to be batched to Europe, amid the company’s expansion in the upcoming months.

The model was unveiled on NIO Day 2020, held in January 2021, and will arrive in Norway, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Denmark before the end of the year.

Recently, NIO CFO Steven Feng confirmed that the EV manufacturer will also enter Sweden, The Netherlands, and Denmark with the sedan NIO ET7 — something that had only been confirmed for the German market, the second European country for the EV maker.
