Nio Improves ET9’s Assisted Driving System in China with New Software Update

Nio started rolling out this week a new software update for its flagship ET9 sedan, introducing improvements to both the smart cockpit and the assisted driving system.

This is the fifth update to Nio’s ‘Cedar’ intelligent system, which followed the previous ‘Banyan’ operating ystem.

The ET9 was launched last December with deliveries beginning in late March.

Earlier this week, the company started deliveries of the ET9 ‘Horizon Edition,’ which adopts a two-tone body scheme and other exclusive design features.

The new edition was introduced by the company’s founder and CEO William Li at the company’s annual event held on September 20.

The system was then also integrated into more affordable models last May as part of the brand’s model refresh to boost demand.

Last month, Nio introduced the ‘Cedar S 1.2.0’ update for the refreshed versions of the ES6 and EC6 SUVs, as well as the ET5 sedan and its station wagon variant, the ET5 Touring.

The ‘Cedar 1.3.0’ update introduces intelligent driving functions such as the Intelligent Slip Control — which lets the car actively switch between AWD and stability systems — and the Intelligent Adaptive High-Beam Warning Light to ensure driving safety.

Nio‘s intelligent assisted driving software now features Point-to-Point Full Domain Navigation Assistance for highways, urban roads and parking lots, separately.

The Intelligent Parking Assist function also gives the vehicle wider recognition of parking spaces.

The new upgrade introduces the Ultra-Wide-Angle A-Pillar Blind-Spot Compensation Image in the intelligent cabin, which ensures better visibility of the front view.

ET9’s latest update brings an Intelligent Car-Home Interconnection feature, allowing your vehicle to seamlessly connect with home devices.

The system integrates with four brands — Midea, Colmo, Huawei, and Xiaotian’e — covering a wide range of home appliances, including air conditioners, robot vacuums, smart lights, and six additional categories.

Ahead of this update, Nio and the Midea-backed brand Colmo opened a joint experience store in Guangzhou late last month, that allows customers to test how cars and home devices can be linked through AI and Internet of Things technology.

The new ‘Cedar 1.3.0’ also enhances Nio‘s e-bike partnership with Lemmo Zero, allowing customers who purchased the e-bike to seamlessly connect it with their vehicle.

As reported earlier this Thursday, Nio’s head of intelligent driving product and experience, Harry Wong, resigned from the EV maker.

The executive was one of the key team members behind Nio’s assisted driving software, the Nio World Model.
