Nio Begins Deliveries of ET9’s ‘Horizon Edition’ in China

About a week after launching a new edition of its flagship model, the ET9, electric vehicle maker Nio began delivering the new variant in China over the weekend.

The Shanghai-based EV maker debuted the ET9 Horizon Edition on September 20 at its annual event in Hangzhou, attended by about 7,000 people.

Prices for the ‘Horizon Edition’ begin at 818,000 yuan, equivalent to $115,000 — when acquiring the model with the battery.

At the time, the company said deliveries of the model were expected to start taking place by the end of September.

The ET9 Horizon Edition was first unveiled in mid-July in China’s MIIT catalogue and the first deliveries were first reported by X user ‘Thinkercar.’

The model adopts a two-tone body scheme, a brand-new wheel design, two tone seats, and exclusive design details.

Amid the launch, Nio said the upper half of the sedan represents “the sky and vision,” while the lower half symbolizes “the earth and action.”

The EV maker describes the new edition as a “flagship of design, technology, and executive luxury, built for pioneers with vision, action, and taste.”

However, demand for the executive sedan has been lower than expected.

Officially launched at last year’s annual event in Guangzhou, deliveries of the flagship sedan began across China in late March.

Shortly after the launch event, Deutsche Bank analyst Wang Bin said the firm expected Nio to sell “approximately 1,500 units per month.”

After selling 810 units in April, deliveries fell month over month in May, June and July.

In August, Nio delivered fewer than 100 units of its flagship sedan for the second consecutive month.

The ET9 is available through Nio‘s battery-as-a-service (BaaS) programme, which lowers the starting price to 660,000 yuan ($92,000) for customers leasing the battery separately.

With the battery included, the four-seat sedan is priced at 788,000 yuan ($109,800) — more than twice the starting price of the ES6 SUV, Nio‘s best-selling model, which begins at 338,000 yuan ($47,100).

The ET9 sold out its 999-unit First Edition, priced at 818,000 yuan ($114,000), within 12 hours.

On the 2025 Nio Day event, the brand also launched the third-gen ES8 SUV, for which it is focusing on ramping up production, along with the Onvo L90 launched in late July.

On Monday, Onvo announced that it has delivered the 20,000th L90, nearly two months after deliveries started.
