Nikola, an electric and hydrogen-powered truck manufacturer, announced on Friday the opening of its first hydrogen refueling station at a commercial truck dealership.

The opening of a new station is part of the company’s goal to establish 14 stations across the country by the end of the year via HYLA, its subsidiary.

After delivering 40 fuel cell trucks in the first quarter of the year and 72 in the second one, the Arizona based company is targeting annual deliveries to be between 300 and 350 units.

The modular station is located at Tom’s Truck Center, a dealership of the truck manufacturer, in Santa Fe Springs, Los Angeles County. A permanent station is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

In a statement, the brand highlighted the convenient location of the new station as it is strategically positioned along Highway 5, one of the busiest highways in the country.

Each station features high-pressure (700-bar) dispensing equipment capable of refueling up to 30 trucks per day.

Tom’s Truck Center President and CEO KC Heidler said the station “allows us to support our customers who choose hydrogen units by offering the necessary infrastructure”.

Heidler added that “California is laying the foundation for a hydrogen-powered future, and we are proud to help drive this transition.”
