Electric vehicle maker Lucid Motors appears to be ramping up production of its second model at its Casa Grande, Arizona, manufacturing facility.
The first pre-production unit was driven in July 2024 by then-Chief Executive Officer Peter Rawlinson, who later announced the official production kickoff on December 5.
However, customer deliveries were halted in early 2025 before being resumed in late April.
In a new update on the supply chain issues affecting production of its seven-seat large SUV, the brand’s global head of communications, Nick Twork, said on Wednesday that the company expects a major increase in production rates in the second half of the year.
“Supply chain constraints were behind the initial issues we experienced in scaling up, but we have since addressed many of those constraints and improved manufacturing efficiency during the year,” Twork told InsideEVs.
The comments followed the blog’s report citing S&P Global Mobility data showing that only nine vehicles were sold in the first half of 2025.
The low figures are consistent with earlier data from both Motor Intelligence and Cox Automotive.
However, and as previously reported by EV, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff dismissed the Motor Intelligence figures indicating zero SUV sales in July as “totally false.”
At the same earnings conference call held earlier this month, Winterhoff said the brand was nearly forced to stop production due to
“In overcoming most of these issues, we are further ramping up Lucid Gravity production, giving us confidence that we will significantly increase Lucid Gravity production in the second half of the year,” Nick Twork added on Wednesday’s statement.
Without disclosing any concrete figures of sales or produced units, Twork said the brand has “built more Lucid Gravity SUVs” in the “past few weeks” than in the first six months of 2025.
“To put things in perspective, just in the past few weeks, we have built more Lucid Gravity SUVs than in the first half of the year,” he said.
Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Andres Sheppard said earlier this month that it expects Lucid to deliver 16,650 vehicles in 2025, of which 10,586 are expected to be Lucid Air sedans and 6,064 Gravity units.
In a few weeks, Lucid will roll out Gravity’s global ad campaign and launch the model across its European markets.
Last month, the company named actor Timothée Chalamet as its first global brand ambassador, part of a strategy to partner with high-profile cultural and sporting figures.
The company shared on Wednesday a new teaser of its soon to be revealed concept car based on the Gravity SUV.
The ‘Gravity X’ concept will be unveiled later this Thursday at the Pebble Beach event.
As of press time, Lucid shares are trading 0.4% lower in Thursday’s pre-market session at $2.33 after having risen 3% on Wednesday.
