Lucid Air Sapphire Reaches New 0—60Mph Record: 1.881 Seconds

The Lucid Air Sapphire — the most expensive, fully spec’d trim of the EV maker’s debut model — has set a new acceleration record, going from 0 to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.881 seconds.

With 1,234 horsepower, the luxury trim is the fastest car tested by MotorTrend, the publication stated on Monday.

The Sapphire outperformed its main rivals — the fully electric Taycan Turbo GT and the Tesla Model S.

The Porsche Taycan is now in second place, 0.006 seconds behind the Lucid Air Sapphire.

The vehicle was tested with Pirelli Trofeo RS tires, in a dealer-installed Track Tire package, an upgrade that cost MotorTrend $8,250 plus installation.

Originally, the trim is equipped with Michelin tires, which have also granted Lucid Air Sapphire with the MotorTrend quarter-mile record.

With those equipped, the Sapphire completed the distance in 9.21 seconds at a trap speed of 157.1 mph (253 km/h) — 0.02 seconds faster than the Taycan.

The Lucid Air Sapphire was first unveiled in August 2022.

According to Lucid, the luxury variant has a “three-motor powertrain that delivers even more horsepower than the car’s dual-motor siblings, including the 1,050-hp Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance.”

The entry-level trim — named Pure — can deliver up to 450 hp, and go from 0—60 mph in 4.5 seconds, according to the company’s website.

The vehicle is priced from $79,900 in the US.

Meanwhile, the EV maker says in its official spec sheet that the Sapphire can produce 1,234 hp needing only 1.89 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph.

It has an estimated range of 427 miles (687 km) and can reach a full speed of 205 mph (330 km).

The model’s price is $249,000.

The first deliveries of the Air Sapphire in the US took place a year after it was unveiled, in October 2023.

In Europe, the first sedans were delivered in May 2025.

In Germany, the vehicle costs €250,000 ($291,800), while in Switzerland, it is priced at 260,000 CHF ($325,195).

The debut model of Lucid Motors was named, for the third consecutive year, the top choice among luxury EV models by Cars.com‘s ranking.

Earlier this year, Lucid has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by an electric vehicle on a single charge, covering 1,205.8 kilometers (749.2 miles) in a Lucid Air Grand Touring.
