Cars.com, the leading automotive marketplace platform, unveiled this Tuesday its 2022 Top Picks for electric vehicles. The platform named Lucid Air model the Luxury electric vehicle model of the year due to its “mind-melting acceleration” and a “quiet, comfortable ride”.

Cars.com experts examined the price, range, comfort and features of 30-plus EV models on sale in the first quarter of 2022 to determine the Top Picks for Value, Families, Luxury and Commuters.

“The first offering from upstart Lucid, the 2022 Air, is simply a next-level EV and a game changer for the market. With a base price of $170,000, the currently sold-out Air Dream Edition offers a stunning amount of cargo space, a multimedia system that’s more responsive and easier to use than Tesla’s, styling that’s incredibly slippery and still dead sexy, and an interior that rivals luxury-brand benchmarks for opulence and finish. The Air also handles as well as some of the world’s most high-powered sports sedans and provides mind-melting acceleration while managing to deliver a quiet, comfortable ride.”

Last week, the company announced the official opening of its newest Studio location at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The studio is the second one in Canada and the 23rd in North America. The company also unveiled a collaboration with Electrify Canada and expects to begin Canadian deliveries of the Lucid Air in Spring 2022.

Lucid has collaborated with Electrify Canada to offer those who reserve a Lucid Air by June 30, 2022, two years of complimentary charging on the rapidly growing charging network. Designed to Combined Charging System (CCS) standards and compatible with any open DC fast charging station, the Lucid Air Grand Touring is capable of the fastest charging speeds of any production car available today.

The company announced on March 22, at GTC (Nvidia’s AI Conference), that its current and future fleets are built on NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion for programmable, intelligent capabilities. The partnership will allow Lucid’s vehicles to be “always at the cutting edge, receiving continuous improvements over the air” — the companies stated. By starting with a programmable, high-performance compute architecture in the Lucid Air, the automaker can take advantage of the scalability of NVIDIA DRIVE and always incorporate the latest AI technology as it expands with more models.

A defining feature of the Lucid Air is the DreamDrive Pro advanced driver assistance system — standard on Dream Edition and Grand Touring trims, optional on other models — which leverages the high-performance compute of NVIDIA DRIVE to provide a seamless automated driving experience.

Recently, Lucid’s CEO Peter Rawlinson admitted to increasing prices for the new reservations. The price change is seen as natural by Rawlinson due to one of the highest inflation numbers in the U.S. plus the escalation of Nickel’s price. Nickel is a critical material in the lithium-ion batteries used in most electric vehicles.

On March 10th, Lucid Motors has requested a permit to open a studio in The Netherlands, the first one in Europe. The studio will be located in Hilversum, which is 30km from the capital Amsterdam, and will be on the same building previously used by a BMW dealership. Lucid has currently 24 Studios in the United States and one in Vancouver (Canada) expecting to open another 19 during this year. You can check every location and the upcoming Lucid Studios here.
