Portuguese electric vehicle (EV) charging company i-charging announced on Tuesday that its Blueberry fast charging series has received an ETL certification update from Intertek for the North American Charging System (NACS).

The NACS certification will enable the startup to support a larger population of Tesla drivers but also from other EV makers. Last February, Stellantis became the last major North American manufacturer to announce its move to the Tesla-invented charging connector.

Customers from i-charging, which was founded in 2019, can choose from an all-in-one unit ranging from 50 to 150 kW or a scalable solution with dispensers and Power Units ranging from 100 up to 900 kW.

The ETL certification process included thorough assessments of the design, construction, and safety of i-charging’s charging stations, ensuring compliance with U.S. and Canadian industry standards, according to the company.

“This achievement marks a big step in our strategy for the North American market,” said Pedro Moreira da Silva, CEO of i-charging.

“Our commitment to serving customers with the flexibility to charge vehicles using any of the most common standards in the USA and Canada is now certified for safety with the addition of the SAE J3400 (NACS) plug option,” he added.
