Electric vehicle maker Polestar announced Tuesday it has appointed Jonas Engström as its new chief operating officer (COO). The executive replaces Dennis Nobelius, who left the Geely-backed brand in September 2023 after three years in the role.

“With his unique combination of strong operational competence, strategic thinking and humble leadership, Jonas is the perfect fit for this role,” Polestar’s chief executive Michael Lohscheller said in a statement.

Engström joined Polestar in 2021 as Head of Product and Program and was promoted to Head of Operations in July 2023.

Prior to Polestar, the executive worked for 19 years at Volvo. After starting there in 2022 as Business Development Manager, Engström served across six different positions before being appointed as Volvo’s Head of Strategy and Business ownership.

The EV maker has recently launched a series of limited-time incentives for its Polestar 4 SUV in China to boost sales before the end of several local and/ or national EV subsidies in the country.

The company is offering discounts of up to 85,000 yuan ($11,640) and additional upgrade subsidies of up to 50,000 yuan ($6,890). Buyers can also choose between a five-year, zero-interest financing plan or a zero-down payment option for the coupe SUV.

In the third quarter of the year, Polestar deliveries fell to 11,900 vehicles (down from 13,150 units) taking year to date figures to 32,300 units. The company was spotted testing this week its upcoming Polestar 5 sedan in northern Europe earlier on Wednesday. The flagship model is scheduled to be launched in 2025.
