BYD has signed 11 new dealer groups in Spain and will open its first dealership in Andorra within two months, the company said on LinkedIn on Monday, as it builds out a network to support sales that have already passed last year’s total.
The additions take BYD’s Spanish network to 107 official dealers and 86 authorised workshops.
The company repeated its target of 130 sales points and 120 workshops by the end of 2026, which leaves 23 dealers to open in about three and a half months.
BYD registered 29,947 vehicles in Spain in the first eight months of the year, it said, passing the 25,552 it recorded in all of 2025 by the end of July.
Who Joined
In the Madrid region BYD signed Grupo Gil, a Madrid distributor since 1981, and Grupo Alvisa, which has more than 25 years in the sector.
In Barcelona it added Movento, the private-mobility division of Moventia, and Auto Almogàvers.
Grupo Easo Motor, a family company in the sector since 1979, covers Gipuzkoa. In the Balearics, Grupo Martí joins in Manacor on Mallorca and Proa Group covers Menorca and Ibiza.
Grupo Tobalo joins in Lucena, Córdoba, Peumovil takes Dénia and Finestrat near Benidorm in Alicante, and Motor Mudéjar covers Teruel. Busanauto opens points in Zamora, Benavente and Ponferrada in Castilla y León, which BYD said had no coverage until now.
In Andorra, Pyrénées Motors, part of Grupo Pyrénées, will open the brand’s first official dealership in the principality.
The Growing Network
BYD had 10 dealers in Spain at the end of 2023 and 27 at the end of 2024, and passed 100 in 2025, according to the statement.
The count has moved slowly since.
General Manager Alberto de Aza gave 104 sales points and 80 workshops in an interview in April and 103 sales points in July. The latest figure of 107 comes after 11 new groups whose announced sites alone number at least 14.
BYD did not say whether some of those sites have yet to open or whether other dealers have left the network.
De Aza said in July that reaching 130 points would give BYD coverage of 97% of the Spanish market and that the next phase would be second sites in larger markets. He has said dealers make 85% of sales on their own premises and will have to absorb a range approaching 20 models.
The Sales Behind It
BYD said it was the fourth best-selling brand to private buyers in August, with 2,406 registrations and 6.1% of that channel, and sixth for the year with 17,446 and 4.7%.
Across all channels it registered 3,191 cars in August, up 74.7%, making it seventh among all brands that month, per ANFAC data. Its 29,947 registrations for the year are about 3.7% of a market of 818,201.
The Atto 2 carries the range.
BYD said the plug-in hybrid Atto 2 DM-i is Spain’s best-selling plug-in hybrid this year with 8,403 registrations, and that the Atto 2 in electric and hybrid form together leads the plug-in market with 11,102.
ANFAC data reported by PressDigital put the Atto 2 DM-i at 8,104, a difference of about 300 that BYD has not explained. The Seal U DM-i has 7,443 by BYD’s count and the Dolphin Surf 3,671, now priced from €12,605 ($14,500) after BYD tripled its own discount.
On electric cars alone, BYD’s 11,943 registrations to August put it ahead of Tesla at 9,733, per Ideauto data. More than 60% of its Spanish volume this year is plug-in hybrid.
BYD offers a six-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty and eight years or 250,000 km on its Blade battery.
The Target
De Aza told Motor.es in July that BYD aimed to exceed 50,000 registrations in Spain this year and break into the top five brands for private buyers.
At 29,947 through August, that requires about 20,000 in the last four months, or approximately 5,000 a month, against an average of about 3,700 so far and a best month of about 4,500 in March.
Across Europe, BYD registered 130,743 cars in the first half, up 168.2%, per ACEA.
Its first European car plant, in Szeged, Hungary, was due to begin series production in the second quarter, and BYD’s Europe adviser said last week it would now start in early December, as the company looks for sites for two more European plants, with Spain and France the leading candidates.
