XPeng Unveils Refreshed P7 Sedan, Launch Expected in China This Q3

XPeng on Thursday released the first images of its updated P7 sedan, which is expected to launch in China in the third quarter, with availability projected between July and August.

The second iteration of the sports sedan — which was internally codenamed E29 — was teased yesterday by head of creative design Rafik Ferrag on social media.

The model will be priced within the 300,000 yuan ($41,600) segment, and is currently available “only in limited inventory,” through local dealers, according to the carmaker.

Although it is “designed for global markets,” no specific timeline has been revealed by the brand for overseas expansion.

It will use “the Edward platform architecture,” which was previously implemented in the G9 SUV — a model which was also been facelifted earlier this year.

XPeng said the new P7 features advanced ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) in both urban and highway scenarios without using LiDAR technology as the carmaker continues its bet on the vision-based approach.”

As seen in other recently launched models, the P7 also features the brand’s in-house developed Turing chip for “enhanced computational power.”

The fully electric coupe’s first iteration, launched in 2019, was also designed by Ferrag, who said that “the original P7 was a milestone for XPeng and a turning point in China’s EV landscape.”

P7 x P7+

Since launching its P7 model, the brand included the P7i, the Mona M03 and the P7+ sedans in its portfolio. XPeng‘s lineup also features two SUVS — the affordable G6 and the G9 — and the (recently refreshed) seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle X9.

The P7i launched in March 2023, as a successor to the old P7. The model is selling for 249,900 yuan ($34,700) in China. The more accessible Mona M03 became its best-selling model, after launching in August 2024. From May 5 to May 11, 3,200 Mona M03s were sold in China.

In November, the company unveiled its P7+, calling it the “world’s first AI-defined vehicle.” The model launched with prices starting at 186,800 yuan ($25,900). Last week, the model represented 1,500 of the 6,900 units registered in its home market. The original P7, still available for sale, represented 10 units.

When questioned about the difference between the recent P7+ and the upcoming P7, XPeng stated that the P7+ “prioritizes family-friendly attributes” while the new P7 “emphasizes advanced intelligence, performance, and a more personalized design.”

Last month, XPeng unveiled a new ultra-fast charging variant of the P7+ that features a 5C battery pack capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. Earlier this year, it filed an application for the name “P7 Ultra” — hinting that it is developing a high-performance variant.

The Chinese automaker announced this week that it has partnered with PlugSurfing to give its European customers access to 940,000 EV chargers across the continent.
