Xiaomi Weekly Sales Rise 28% to 5,600 Units Ahead of YU7 Launch

China’s Xiaomi recorded 5,600 insurance registrations in its home market between June 9 and 15.

Data posted on Chinese social media on Tuesday showed weekly sales climbed 28.1% from the 4,370 units recorded in the first week of June, which had marked the company’s lowest level since mid-February.

From January 1 to June 15, Xiaomi sold 142,700 units of the SU7 model. The model is currently priced from 299,900 yuan ($41,800), while the Ultra version starts at 529,900 yuan ($73,800).

The Beijing-based company said on Monday that the launch of its second model, the YU7, was moved up from July to the end of June. Deliveries in China are expected to begin in July.

Regarding EV brands in the country, U.S. brand Tesla continued to lead and set a new sales record with 15,500 vehicles sold last week — its best week in the second quarter and the third best week year to date.

The figures were primarily driven by sales from its refreshed Model Y, while the Model 3 sedan represented 4,290 units.

Registrations for the model remained below its main competitor’s — Xiaomi‘s SU7 sedan.

Regarding Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) brands, Stellantis-backed Leapmotor sold 8,800 units and Li Auto followed with 7,900 vehicles. XPeng’s sales rebounded to 6,400 units.

Premium brand Zeekr registered 3,200 units between June 9 and 15, while its competitor Nio brand sold 3,060 vehicles. Nio Group’s sub-brand Onvo listed 1,200 units, while the recent Firefly brand recorded 400.

Chinese giant BYD, the best-selling NEV brand in the country, listed 70,300 hybrid and fully electric vehicles last week. Year to date, it sold over 1.2 million vehicles in its home market.

Last month, Xiaomi‘s chief executive claimed that their model provides 50,000 to 60,000 yuan (approximately $7,000 to $8,000) more in value compared to Tesla’s Model Y.

It highlighted the brand’s intention to directly compete with the refreshed model in the Chinese market.

Customers can now schedule in-store appointments across more than 30 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, among others.

Lei Jun announced last week that Xiaomi‘s SU7 Ultra has become “the fastest electric production car in Nürburgring history.”

The high-performance sedan completed a lap in 7 minutes and 4.957 seconds. The model’s prototype had already broken the record with a lap time of 6’46″874.
