Tesla’s German Sales Plunge to Lowest in Three and a Half Years

Tesla’s registrations plunged in October to the lowest level since May 2022.

According to data released by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on Wednesday, the brand sold 750 vehicles last month, a 54% drop when compared to a year ago.

The figures also represented a 78% drop from September, as sales are typically lower in the first month of each quarter in the auto industry.

In Europe’s largest auto market, the Elon Musk-led company has registered 15,595 vehicles year to date — halving from the 31,461 units registered in the first ten months of 2024.

According to the EU-EVs platform, October’s numbers were the lowest for the brand in Germany since May 2022 (three years and five months), when it had sold 293 vehicles.

From June 2022 until April 2025, registrations had been above 1,000 monthly units. April’s 885 units are the second-lowest result year to date for Tesla.

Sinking Sales Despite Rising EV Adoption

In a total of 250,133 vehicles registered in Germany last month, 52,425 were battery electric vehicles (BEV) — a 47.7% increase from a year ago.

Electric vehicles represented 21% of the market — one in every five cars sold in the country was fully electric.

While Tesla’s market share was just 0,3%, BYD’s jumped to 1,3% — a ninefold increase from the same month a year before. China’s giant registered 3,353 vehicles in the German market in October.

The same trend has been seen in other European countries, where Tesla lost market share last month despite the EV sales increase, such as the UK, where it recorded its weakest results year to date.

In Sweden, and following a two-year-long labor dispute, registrations sank to 133 units in October.

Tesla’s Updated Lineup

Tesla sells four models in the German market.

The refreshed Model Y is priced from €40,970 ($47,100), with the introduction of the Standard iteration in European markets last month. The Premium version starts €5,000 above.

Tesla announced earlier this week that production of the Model Y Standard has officially started at the company’s GigaFactory in Germany.

According to the local website, Model Y Standard deliveries are expected to begin from December in the country.

With the release of the new version of the best-selling SUV, its entry-level model is now priced the same as the cheapest Model 3 sedan.

Tesla recently introduced the refreshed versions of its flagship models in the region, after first debuting them in the US four months ago.

The Model X is priced from €115,970 ($133,300), while the Model S starts from €110,970 ($127,500).
