On Tuesday, weekly car insurance data for China was released, indicating that Tesla sold 11,000 vehicles in the country from April 29 to May 5. This includes 600 units of the revamped Model 3, with the remaining 10,400 units being Model Y.

Comparing to the same week last year, Tesla registrations were 96 percent higher, up from 5,600 units. Sequentially, Tesla registered 14,800 vehicles from April 22 to 28, of which 12,600 were Model Y vehicles.

Year-to-date sales of Tesla in China currently stand at 172,840 units, which is 11,380 units and 6.17 percent lower than last year. However, with the year-over-year increase in the weekly sales numbers, the gap between this year and 2023 decreased from the previous week’s 16,500 units.

According to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold 62,167 China-made vehicles in April. The sales, which include exports from Tesla’s biggest export hub GigaShanghai, declined 18.03 percent from 75,842 year over year.

During April, Tesla reduced prices in the world’s largest auto market and introduced a limited-time offer of 0 percent interest loans as a fresh incentive strategy across several markets, including China.
