Tesla’s VP of AI Software Ashok Elluswamy commented on Tuesday on the rollout of version 14.1 of the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system in the US, which began rolling out late Monday.
Elluswamy is the first executive to comment on the release, saying that many follow-up versions with “significant improvements” will be released before the year’s end.
“FSD 14.1, the first in the v14 series, has officially started rolling out to customers!,” he wrote on X.
The executive added that there are “many follow up releases, with significant improvements” in the works.
“These should ship through the rest of this year,” Elluswamy stated, reaffirming the timeline that CEO Elon Musk had given earlier last month.
Musk wrote on X back then that version 14.0 would go “into early wide release” by the end of September, adding that Tesla will release “14.1 about 2 weeks later and finally 14.2.”
However, Tesla rolled out version 14.1 late Monday, skipping 14.0.
According to Musk, “the car will feel almost like it is sentient being by 14.2.”
Commenting on a video shared by Elon Musk showing Tesla Optimus fighting Kung Fu via AI models and not teleoperated as done in previous Optimus demos, Elluswamy said last week that it was “just the beginning.”
“Once the AI models for self-driving and Optimus unify it’s going to be 🔥,” the VP of AI Software wrote on X.
The version 14 of Tesla’s FSD serves as a technological foundation for Tesla‘s Optimus humanoid robot, which integrates the model.
As the company scales both autonomous driving and robotics products, Musk predicts that “~80% of Tesla‘s value will be Optimus.”
The CEO had previously described the highly anticipated V14 update as “the second biggest ever,” only behind the V12 release.
Available only for Tesla vehicles with Hardware 4, the new version includes a wide range of improvements, including better handling of system faults and smoother recovery from degraded operation, which enhances overall reliability.
Tesla said future updates will focus on improving smooth driving, parking spot selection, and parking quality.
The FSD software is available for purchase in the United States with a single payment of $8,000 or through a monthly subscription priced at $99.
For new Model X, Model S and Cybertruck buyers, the EV maker includes the system in the ‘Luxe Package,’ which now comes standard across the three models.
