Tesla has begun rolling out version 14.1 of its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system to the first customers late Monday in the United States, fulfilling the rollout timeline announced by Elon Musk last week.
Previously, the chief executive had described the highly anticipated V14 update as “the second biggest ever,” only behind the V12 release.
“Tesla FSD V14.1 is downloading on my Model Y right now!,” the Tesla shareholder and content creator Sawyer Merritt wrote on X. “This is the first major FSD update in nearly a year.”
The new version, officially named FSD (Supervised) v14.1 and only available to Tesla‘s hardware 4 vehicles, introduces a wide range of improvements.
The update adds new arrival options allowing drivers to select where FSD should park, including parking lots, streets, driveways, garages or curbside.
It also enhances the system’s ability to pull over or yield for emergency vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks and ambulances.
Tesla said the navigation and routing systems are now integrated into the vision-based neural network, enabling real-time management of blocked roads and detours.
A new speed profile allows for more customization of driving style preferences, while handling of static and dynamic gates has been improved.
The company also said that FSD’s response to road debris such as tires, tree branches and boxes has been enhanced, alongside better performance in unprotected turns, lane changes, vehicle cut-ins and school bus interactions.
The software update further strengthens FSD’s ability to manage system faults and recover smoothly from degraded operation to improve reliability.
It introduces automatic narrow-field washing to provide efficient front camera self-cleaning and optimize aerodynamics at higher speeds.
The system now also issues alerts for residue buildup on the interior windshield that may affect camera visibility, recommending users to visit service centers if needed.
TTeslaesla noted that upcoming improvements will focus on overall smoothness, parking spot selection and parking quality.
Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said last week that the rollout would begin Monday, followed by additional updates in the coming weeks.
“Version 14.0 goes into early wide release next week,” Musk wrote on X, adding that Tesla will release “14.1 about 2 weeks later and finally 14.2.”
He said that “the car will feel almost like it is sentient being by 14.2.”
In a post on August 21 outlining major events across his companies, Musk listed the release of FSD V14 for “next month.”
Speaking at the All-In Summit last month, he described version 14 as “the biggest upgrade in Tesla software since version 12,” saying the company is “increasing the parameter count by an order of magnitude.”
“These are all software updates that will go out, so just over the air (OTA) updates,” Musk said. “Your car is sentient by the end of the year.”
In early August, Musk said that “once we confirm real-world safety of FSD 14, which we think will be amazing, the car will nag you much less.”
Later that month, he responded to a CNBC segment in which William Blair analyst Jed Dorsheimer praised the Robotaxi experience after testing it, clarifying that Dorsheimer “was just on version 13.” “Version 14 of Tesla self-driving feels sentient,” Musk wrote on X, calling it “the second biggest update to Tesla AI/Autopilot ever after V12. It feels alive.”
Tesla’s FSD is available for purchase in the United States with a single payment of $8,000 or through a monthly subscription priced at $99.
Last month, the system was also launched in Australia and New Zealand for vehicles equipped with Hardware 4.
