Tesla Sees Germany Sales Drop 48% in 2025 to 19,390 Units

Tesla sold 19,390 vehicles in Germany in 2025, according to data published on Tuesday by the country’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).

The figures have nearly halved from a year ago, when 37,574 vehicles had been registered.

December registrations were down 48% year over year, extending a pattern of year-over-year declines that has persisted throughout 2025.

Last month, Tesla sold 2,032 vehicles in Germany, marking a 15.3% increase compared to the previous month, as the final month of the year is typically the strongest for sales in the auto industry.

However, the figures trailed behind September’s 3,404 units, representing the company’s best-selling month of 2025.

Sales of Elon Musk’s company rebounded in November and December after hitting a three-year low of 750 vehicles in October.

Monthly registrations had fallen below 1,000 units for the first time in nearly three years in April 2025, when the company recorded 885 sales.

Tesla began consistently selling over 1,000 vehicles per month in Germany starting in June 2022.

Tesla’s Updated Lineup

Tesla sells its four S, 3, X, and Y models in Germany, with the refreshed versions of the luxury Model S and Model X having been recently launched in Europe.

The refreshed Model Y is priced from €39,990 ($46,700), since the introduction of the Standard iteration in European markets in October. The Premium version starts €5,000 above.

Deliveries of the Standard version, which started being produced at the GigaBerlin in early November, commenced in December.

The company also debuted the Model 3 Standard in late 2025, two months after its launch in the US. The cheaper trim of the best-selling sedan begins at €36,990 ($43,200).

The newer versions of the Model S and Model X begin at €109,990 ($128,500) and €114,990 ($134,320), respectively.

European Sales

In 2025, Tesla experienced a decline in sales across multiple European markets, due to increased competition from Chinese automakers, the refresh of the Model Y, and reputational damage linked to CEO Elon Musk’s political activities.

Swedish vehicle registrations fell by more than 66% last year, with only a third of the usual number of vehicles sold in 2024.

The decline has been worsened by an ongoing labor strike that has already lasted over two years.

In France, Tesla registrations dropped 37% year over year in 2025, while Spanish sales fell 4% compared to last year.

In Norway, on the other hand, the company was the best-selling brand and saw sales jump 41.3% year over year to 34,285 vehicles.

The figures not only set a new sales record for Tesla but also broke Norway’s all-time record, surpassing Volkswagen’s 26,575 vehicles sold in 2016.

In 2026, the company expects to secure approval of its Full-Self Driving (FSD) software in Europe, with an upcoming test with the Dutch road safety authority scheduled for next month.

Tesla has been testing the system in several cities across the continent, including Berlin, according to videos shared on X throughout 2025.
