Tesla Added to a New Government Procurement List in China

Tesla has been included in the government procurement list of East China’s Fujian province for the first time, following the addition to the purchase list of Jiangsu province earlier this year.

Local authorities and government-related institutions in Fujian can now purchase a range of NEVs, including Tesla’s Model Y marking the first time the model is available through government procurement channels in Fujian.

The Model Y, the world’s best selling model, starts at 249,900 yuan ($35,000) in China and offers a range of 554 kilometers with a top speed of 217 km/h, according to Tesla’s official website.

Sun Xiaohong, general secretary of the car unit of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, told local media China Daily that the move “shows a clear attitude of the Chinese government” to support the development of smart vehicles.

“Tesla’s entry into the government procurement process shows a clear attitude of the Chinese government to encourage the development of intelligent connected vehicles, irrespective of whether the manufacturer is Chinese or foreign.
