China’s weekly insurance registrations were released on Tuesday revealing that BYD reached a new record of 87,800 new energy vehicles (NEVs) insured — up 12% from the previous week. The figures cover the period between August 19 to 25 with the NEV penetration rate in China surpassing the 50% milestone again.
The Shenzhen-based company secured its fifth consecutive week with over 70,000 units insured and the first one ever surpassing 80,000 vehicles.

Tesla followed with 14,200 units — a slight decline of 100 vehicles week over week — as the company extends the 0% interest loan program by another month until the end of the third quarter.
From the 14,200 vehicles insured by Tesla last week, 4,400 were Model 3 while 7,800 were the Model Y SUV, the world’s best selling vehicle.
Never Miss an Update

After two weeks in a row registering 3,300 vehicles, the Shanghai-based EV maker Nio saw its insured units raising by 39.4% to 4,600 units. The company will host the launch event of its first sub-brand Onvo on September 19 with the first deliveries starting “one week later”.
