China’s weekly insurance registrations from August 12 to 18 were published on Tuesday with BYD recording 78,500 new energy vehicles (NEVs) and Tesla following with 14,300 units — a decline of 8% from the 15,500 units registered in the previous week.
Despite the decline, the figures represent the company’s second-best week of the third quarter. The registrations of the revamped Model 3 represented the third-best week of the year with over 6,000 units.
The figures from BYD, China’s largest EV manufacturer, were flat week over week with its sub-brands Fang Cheng Bao recording 900 vehicles and Yangwang 100 units. The Shenzhen-based company secured the fourth consecutive with over 70,000 units registered.

The NEV maker Li Auto posted the second consecutive weekly decline of 3% registering 10,700 vehicles. Both BYD and Li Auto set new monthly sales records in July.
BYD delivered 342,383 new energy vehicles (NEVs) last month, up 30% year-over-year (YoY) and surpassing its previous record of 341,658 NEVs. The company also delivered 130,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) during the month.
Li Auto delivered 51,000 NEVs in July, achieving a 49.4% year over year growth. Year-to-date deliveries for the Beijing-based company reached 239,981 units.
The Shanghai-based EV maker Nio registered 3,300 units, the same result as the previous week.
Xpeng registrations rebound to 2,300 vehicles after having dropped nearly 23% in the prior week. The result shows an increase of 35% from the week that ended on August 11.
