EV maker Rivian is opening a new showroom in Palo Alto, San Francisco — marking its 30th location in the United States and the 14th in California.
The space is located in the Stanford Shopping Center and will be inaugurated this weekend with several community-focused events scheduled for August 22—24.
The news come a few days after the Palo Alto received its first patrol-ready Rivian R1S for testing, assigned to a patrol supervisor for 12-hour shifts.
The partnership, announced in late March, was part of the department’s ongoing efforts to integrate more environmentally friendly vehicles into their fleet.
Rivian considers Palo Alto its second home, with major operations in autonomy, AI, software and hardware based there.
Additionally, several other teams, including mechanical engineering, finance, software engineering, sales and legal, also have offices there.
As of Thursday, the company has 97 Palo Alto-based positions opened, according to its website.
Other offices in the US include Irvine — where the company is headquartered — Carson, Wittmann, Plymouth and Normal, where its EV plant is located.
Last month, Rivian announced it would “soon” be opening its first Charging Outpost in the East Coast — located in Southampton, New York. It follows the two existing Outposts in Joshua Tree and Yosemite, both in California.
“Charging Outposts are amenity-based Rivian Adventure Network charging stations on high-visibility routes that provide EV owners with a reliable, worry-free charging experience while on the road,” Rivian describes on its website.
Last month, the Irvine-based EV maker announced it will establish a new East Coast headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of its broader investment in the state, as it is preparing to produce its vehicles in the state.
Rivian expects to employ about 100 people at the new site by the end of next year and up to 500 once the headquarters is fully operational.
The new office will open in late 2025 and expand further in 2026 alongside construction progress at the Georgia factory, planned to take approximately 36 months to build.
Partial operations are projected to begin in the third quarter of 2027 and sales of its production are set to begin in late 2028.
Rivian also announced plans to open a new artificial intelligence and autonomous driving research hub in London, marking its first facility in the UK and second in Europe — after Belgrade, Serbia, in 2022.
