Nio Says ES8 Orders Placed Today Face 6-Month Wait

Nio hosted a livestream on Monday on its Chinese social media platforms, where it updated reservation holders on the delivery process for the newly launched third generation ES8 SUV.

According to several local media reports on Sunday and earlier this Monday, the company has sold out this year’s 40,000-unit production capacity for the three-row vehicle.

The ES8, a large six- and seven-seat SUV, was officially launched on Saturday in Hangzhou.

The EV maker’s two founders split duties, with one in Beijing and the other in Hangzhou to deliver the first batch of cars to customers on Sunday.

Prices start at 406,800 yuan ($56,000), or 298,800 yuan under the company’s battery-as-a-service rental program.

However, Nio will not be able to cover the orders it received for the model this year, having announced on Monday that new orders will face a waiting time of between 24 and 26 weeks.

According to the delivery time, customers placing an order today (Monday) are expected to receive their vehicle in March 2026 — six months from now.

Nio said that the delivery cycle for each order will be shown before 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday in the Nio app, where customers will be able to see when their vehicle is expected to be delivered.

In the meantime, the company announced that customers who are awaiting delivery of their vehicles will receive “peace-of-mind waiting points” from the eighth week without delivery.

Nio will award them 500 points per day from the 57th day after order lock-in and until delivery.

The company is also granting each order locked in before December 31 a voucher covering any additional purchase tax incurred if invoicing and delivery slip into 2026 due to Nio‘s production or logistics delays.

The EV maker further added that configuration changes made to the order before September 30 will not reset the queue.

According to Nio, orders locked within 9 minutes can still get delivery this year.

The information suggests that the Shanghai-based brand was able to secure about 40,000 orders in that short amount of time.

On Sunday, speaking to the media, founder and CEO William Li stated that the order lock-in ratio for the new ES8 would not be disclosed for now, despite being higher than expected overall.

According to Li, the production capacity for the Onvo L90 is expected to reach 15,000 units per month by October, while the Nio ES8 is expected to ramp up to 15,000 units per month by December.

The Nio Group is currently focusing on ramping up production of both large SUVs, while simultaneously launching a refreshed iteration of the Onvo debut model, the L60 to boost demand.

Earlier on Monday, Onvo said that deliveries of the refreshed L60 are “expected to start gradually in mid-to-late October.
