Sales of Nio vehicles have fallen nearly 35% year over year in the first nine months of 2025 as the Chinese EV maker continues to try to sell out its inventory of 2022 and 2024 model year vehicles.
The premium brand has sold 20 vehicles in September in the largest market it is available in Europe, down 9.1% year over year.
In the January-September period, Nio has sold 211 vehicles to both private and business customers.
Nio entered Europe through Norway in 2021 and expanded to Germany — and three other European markets — in October 2022.
After selling 47 vehicles in July and 23 in August, third quarter total registrations in Germany stood at 90 units.
Last month, the brand hosted a two-day sales event at its ‘Nio Hub’ showroom in Munich, allowing customers to “immediately purchase” inspected and certified pre-owned vehicles.
The premium brand is looking to reduce inventory of multiple models from the 2023 model year in the country but also in its other European markets.
Last July, the brand had set its highest monthly registrations since April 2024, after setting new incentives for its two entry-level models in the country — the ET5 and ET5 Touring — available through the end of August.
This followed a flexible subscription campaign announced in June.
While the company has updated several models earlier this year, including the ET5 and ET5T in May, it continues to sell previous iterations across its European markets.
In the first week of September, Nio opened a new battery swap station in Germany.
The station, where Nio customers can swap the vehicle’s battery in about 3 minutes, is located in Hamburg and marks the 61st in Europe.
The previous two stations in the Old Continent were inaugurated in April and in December 2024, showing a major slowdown in expansion compared to 2023 and early 2024.
The brand has recently debuted in Belgium — one of the more than a dozen new European markets it will enter over the next 18 months, with both the Nio marque and the Firefly brand.
The Nio Group set an all time record for the company’s global deliveries with over 31,300 units handed over worldwide in August.
However, these figures were reached mostly through the new Onvo L90, as its second sub-brand represented over half of the group’s deliveries.
